In an interview with ESNEWS, Robert Garcia , former world champion and, trainer and brother to talent Mikey Garcia, discussed the idea of what an undercard would look like on the biggest night of boxing in the history of the sport.

He started out by saying that the paydays for the two top attractions would leave very little money left to pay for good undercard fights, there is also the belief that an undercard would not really be necessary as the fight is so big and well publicised that it would carry itself.

He did say that in the past Mayweather had undercards, which boasted such names as Leo Santa Cruz, Amir Khan, Broner, Canelo, Matthysse and Garcia. Garcia then suggested that Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar. The reasoning for this is that it would appeal to the Argentinean fans and would list another world title fight from an exciting champion whilst costing very little compared to what undercard fights would usually cost to host a world title bout.

Garcia went on to joke that he probably wouldn’t even get a seat despite having fighters on the undercard. Seats for a fight this big is going to lead to seat prices going through the roof. If this fight ever came off, the amount of time fight fans have been waiting for it would certainly mean that many would be left disappointed without tickets. The PPV numbers would go through the roof and likely break records previously set in Mayweather super fights such as the ones with Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez.

Personally I would like to see some good fights on the undercard from young fighters. Guys who are looking to breakthrough into mainstream popularity and just need that extra push to get there, although it would be impossible, guys like Guillermo Rigondeaux, Gennady Golovkin and Keith Thurman would be my ideal picks.
