WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan, destroyed his mandatory challenger Diego Magdaleno in Manchester last night in effortless fashion, with a view to a possible quick turnaround – and 4th outing of 2015 -on December’s Andy Lee/Billy Joe Saunders card.

The revised date for the WBO 160 lb clash was announced last night, and following the big win that fully affirmed the Manchester fighter’s credentials as a bone-fide world champion, promoter Frank Warren alluded to the fact he’d like Flanagan to appear on that card, which will also be at the city’s Manchester Arena.

“It was easier than I thought, I was expecting a hard night’s work and it turned out easy,” Flanagan said to iFLtv after his stunning maiden defence. “I didn’t even get going really.”

It was a statement of intent from Flanagan, who was keen to show the world exactly what he had by dispatching Magdaleno in style, and he blew away any lingering doubts over July’s “unsatisfactory” win over Jose Zepeda – which ended prematurely when the American popped his shoulder in the 2nd – with the stunning knockout win.

Flanagan says that it’s not just the short nights work in the ring that will affect his decision whether to box on the Lee/Saunders bill however, but rather the weeks of graft that go into training camps beforehand. After a short holiday, he will make a decision.

“People will say, ‘it’s only two rounds’ but they don’t see the hard camps. I train morning to night, I train twice a day, then go home and sleep. All I do is train.”

“It’s non-stop and it’s been like that since Christmas but I’ll go back and see how I feel, have a little holiday – we’re booked to go Monday morning, so we’ll see how I feel after that,” he added regarding a possible December appearance. “I feel at the minute I need a bit of a break, but we’ll see.”

For many, the victory clearly affirmed Flanagan as Britain’s premier 135 lb fighter, despite him appearing as low as #5 on Sky Sports rankings, that in all honesty, appear far from impartial – especially at 135.
