Pacquiao slams Mayweather in response to Instagram taunt

Manny Pacquiao might not be able to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring, but he sure seems to have gotten the best of him outside the ring in attacking him in response to an Instragram video that Mayweather put together earlier this week. Mayweather taunted Pacquiao in slapping around a dummy that he pretended was Pacquiao. Mayweather’s comments to the dummy Pacquiao were as follows:

“So, Manny, you out telling people that I didn’t win fair and square, that this little arm is messed up. Is that right? Huh? Talk to me! Stop lying!”

Pacquiao didn’t take too kindly with being called a liar about his right shoulder injury that he recently had operated on to repair a rotator cuff that he came into the Mayweather fight with on May 2nd in their huge money fight called the “Fight of the Century.” Mayweather feels that it was a bogus injury, and just something for Pacquiao to use to save face after getting beaten by a 12 round decision. It wasn’t a one-sided fight by any means, but it also wasn’t a close fight either. Mayweather was on cruise control and fought hard only when he needed to. The second half of the fight was all Mayweather.

Here’s what Pacquiao said to Philboxing.com in response to Mayweather’s Instagram post: “A real champion is gracious both in his words and conduct; someone who is a champion not just in his chosen field of endeavor but even in his own home and private life.”

“We should understand Floyd Mayweather Jr., because of his family background. He hailed from a family of ex-convicts and he himself is an ex-convict. We could not blame him because his action just showed the kind of family upbringing he had..

Pacquiao is obviously hitting Mayweather very hard in response to what appeared to be Mayweather just having fun. Pacquiao took it to another level with his attack, but it could be that some of Pacquiao’s irritation is the result of him being beaten by Mayweather. When you get beaten like Pacquiao did, it can’t be a good feeling to have your conqueror taking shots at you and doubting your preexisting injuries.

Mayweather doesn’t appear to believe that Pacquiao was injured. He seems to think it was just something he came up with so that he wouldn’t lose fans are the loss.

“It only reminds me of what he did to his ex-wife. I hope he would find time to reflect on his life and repent for the sins he committed in the past,” Pacquiao said. “I still respect him as God’s creation and I won’t resort to such kind of a low blow just to get his attention.”.

The best way for Pacquiao to get even with Mayweather would be to get healthy, convince his promoter Bob Arum to setup the rematch, and then agree to whatever purse split that Mayweather will be willing to give him. After the way Pacquiao lost and his subsequent injury excuse, it might be difficult for him to get the same 60-40 split of the money that he got last time. Pacquiao might have to agree to a 65-35 or 70-30 split the next time around if he wants to fight Mayweather again. But Pacquiao is also going to have to convince his promoter Bob Arum to make the fight.

Arum seems interested in putting him in with one of his Top Rank stable fighters Terence Crawford next, even though the fight would be lucky if it brings in even 400,000 pay-per-view buys. If Pacquiao just cave into agreeing to whoever Arum wants him to fight, then we’ll likely see Pacquiao fight Crawford next rather than Mayweather.
