Miguel Vazquez will be looking to out-box Mickey Bey on September 13th

IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (34-3, 13 KOs) plans on using his boxing skills, long reach and movement to beat fringe contender Mickey Bey (20-1-1, 10 KOs) in their fight on September 13th on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Marcos Maidana rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight card will be televised on Showtime pay-per-view, and the Vazquez-Bey fight will be one of the fights that makes it onto the televised portion of the card.

You can make an argument that #13 IBF Bey doesn’t rate a title shot against Vazquez based on what Bey has done lately in the ring. He was recently knocked out in the 10th round by John Molina last year in July.

Bey never avenged the defeats and he’s fought twice since then in beating easy opponents in Alan Herrera and Carlos Cardenas. However, Bey is with Mayweather Promotions, which explains why he’s fighting on the card instead of someone with a higher rank and perhaps a better chance of beating Vazquez like Kevin Mitchell or Ivan Redkach.

“My style is the style that has taken me to becoming a world champion,” said Vazquez said via RingTV.com. “I don’t plan to make any drastic changes to my style. This is why I’ve maintained and remained victorious. I may try to modify and to be more aggressive and attack, but, again, this is the style that has kept me here.”

Vazquez recently defeated a very tough Denis Shafikov by a 12 round decision last February. Shaifikov looks a lot better than Bey at this point in Bey’s career.

Bey has good hand speed and power, but he’s also hittable and someone that struggles when he’s dealing with someone with power. Vazquez isn’t a big puncher, but he’s got enough power to make Bey miserable on September 13th. It’s going to be difficult for Bey to land cleanly, especially given that he’s a pot shot fighter.
