Mayweather Sr: Khan fights like a washer woman

Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr says he wasn’t impressed with what he saw from Amir Khan in his recent 12 round decision win over Devon Alexander last Saturday night. Floyd Sr says that Khan fought like a woman due to the way he would flail with his arms when coming forward to throw his combinations.

To Floyd Sr, Khan looked like a wild woman, and he saw it as a very undisciplined manner to be fighting. With that said, Floyd Sr still thinks that Khan would present more of a problem for his son Floyd Mayweather Jr than someone like Manny Pacquiao. Floyd Sr thinks that Khan’s high work rate would be more difficult than Pacquiao’s one punch at a time style of landing punches.

“He fights like a washer woman,” Mayweather Sr said to Hustleboss.com. “The man throws punches all kinds of ways. [Mayweather Sr then demonstrated how Khan punched in his recent fight against Alexander]. I’m going to be honest with you. Nothing impresses me about Amir Khan. Amir Khan fights like a damn woman. All those damn punches. He ain’t got no control or nothing. That guy is throwing all those crazy [expletive] punches.”

Khan is currently in a holding pattern waiting to see if he gets picked out by Mayweather Jr for his next fight in early 2015. Mayweather said recently that he’s not interested in fighting Khan though, as he’s looking to get a fight against Pacquiao instead. However, that fight doesn’t look like it’s going to happen on the date that Mayweather wants it to take place on May 2nd due to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum wanting to save that date for his fighter Miguel Cotto vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

As such, Mayweather will need to wait until June, July or August for a fight against Pacquiao if he’s intent on facing him in the first half of 2015. Khan could still get the Mayweather fight if Mayweather decides he’s not interested in fighting Pacquiao on a non-Mexican holiday. In that case Arum will lose out on the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, but he’ll still have the Cotto-Canelo fight.

If Mayweather is serious about not wanting to fight Khan then he’ll need to look for another option for him to fight in May next year. Mayweather could then fight someone like Danny Garcia or Kell Brook. Either of those guys would be excellent options for Mayweather. But neither of them would be a big enough name for Mayweather to bump Cotto-Canelo off their Cinco de Mayo fight date.
