Mayweather: Nobody’s going to knock me off this throne

WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) says he’s not ready to be knocked off his throne by challenger Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) in their fight on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Indeed, Mayweather doesn’t see anyone knocking him off his throne, be it Manny Pacquiao or anyone else.

Mayweather is fighting at a too high of a level and he doesn’t see anyone out there that can pose any problems for him.

“Nobody’s going to knock me off this throne. I’m going to stay at the top and do what I want to, how I want and when I want to,” Mayweather said on All Access: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2. “They think they good. I know I’m great.”

Maidana and his trainer Robert Garcia think they know how to break the May-Vinci code after giving Mayweather some problems in their first fight last May at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Garcia plans on having Maidana throw countless punches for 12 rounds to outwork Mayweather.

Garcia wants Maidana to smother Mayweather by sticking close to him so that he can’t get any breathing room to escape just last time. Maidana had to hold and push up against Mayweather to keep him from getting away from him last time. You can expect the same thing in the rematch with Maidana trying to keep Mayweather pinned to the ropes by any means necessary.

Yes, you can expect a dirty fight from Maidana, but that kind of goes without saying though. Just how dirty of a fight that Maidana puts in will be determined by the referee working the fight Kenny Bayless.

During a workout, Garcia told Maidana “Throw a lot of punches, but don’t get so close, so that you can throw the straight right hand. Get low so he thinks you’re going to throw low. Then all of a sudden throw high. Throw it straight so you can reach him. We’ve got to get him. That’s where we fell short [in the first fight.”

Mayweather isn’t going to let Maidana crowd him like last time without moving before he gets to him. Mayweather has had weeks to train for Maidana’s fighting style, and you can expect him to be much more elusive for this fight than the last time they fought.
