The WBA #9, WBO #8, IBF #10 ranked Ming will face Filipino Randy ‘Ultratune’ Petalcorin (22-1-1, 17 KOs) on April 24 at the 18,000+ capacity Capital Gym in Beijing, China for Petalcorin’s WBA interim light flyweight title.

Training at his gym in Da Lian, China, Ming states this bout is the opportunity “he has been waiting for his whole life” and that he has been training intensely leading up to the bout. Ming’s training camp has involved several mountain running sessions and sparring with a variety of speed oriented boxers to combat the quick moving Petalcorin.

Once holding a record of 3-5, Ming has gone undefeated over the past five years and is on a run of 9 consecutive victories. His most recent fight was a 10 round unanimous decision victory over Indonesia’s Tommy Seran (24-4, 15 KOs) which saw Ming claim the WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight title.

Rising star Petalcorin will be Ming’s toughest challenge to date but the bout presents Ming the opportunity to receive the honour of becoming the first Chinese boxer to win a WBA title should he be successful.

The main players behind Ma Yi Ming are Top Rank Boxing and SECA Group’s Mr Sheng Li and Edmund Chu who also handle rising Asian star and dual Olympic gold medallist Zou Shiming.

The Petalcorin – Ming card on April 24th will also be broadcast live on Chinese’s TV show Fist of Power 3 and is expected to attract a Chinese audience of over 40 million people on free to air television.
