Leo Santa Cruz in danger of ruining reputation

The WBC super bantamweight world champion Leo Santa Cruz has now parted ways with Golden Boy Promotions and his contract was sold to Al Haymon. As we all know Haymon keeps his fighters out of meaningful matchups where there is a chance that his fighter may actually lose. Because of this a showdown with Guillermo Rigondeaux is completely off the cards.

Owner and founder of GBP Oscar De La Hoya was very vocal about trying to make that fight and had been quoted saying it was something that boxing needed and I agree with him. Leo Santa Cruz has the punch output to possibly give the Cuban master some problems, but now we will never know.

Instead what the fans will likely get is Santa Cruz displaying his relentless, two fisted attack upon another ridiculous underdog as has been the case recently. Whilst Santa Cruz is one of the most exciting figures in the lower weight classes, that agrresive exciting style is wasted when he is up against guys who are not capable of doing anything.

If Leo Santa Cruz is going to be limited to fighting only weaker opposition and B – C class fighters he is guaranteed victories over then his stock is going to hit a sharp decline and interest in his once blossoming career is going to fizzle out. If you are not going to fight the best fans will quickly lose interest in you, particularly with the fickle nature of boxing fans today.

I may be wrong but I can see some very disappointing bouts scheduled for Leo Santa Cruz in the future and that will be very disappointing as he is a talent.
