Korobov vs. Golovkin in 2014?

Remember Matt Korobov? The Russian middleweight with an unblemished 20 win resume? The one that was making news and creating excitement in boxing a few years back?

Most of you probably do remember him, but it has been a very long time since Korobov had made any kind of news in boxing. His next fight on September 28th, will be against Grady Brewer, and if he comes out victorious, he just might be in for a surprise.

According to a recent article, Korobov has stated that Bob Arum of Top Rank promised him a fight against Gennady Golovkin in the near future if both Matt and Gennady win their respective bouts.

I don’t know about you, but that could turn out to be a war! Both Golovkin and Korobov are hard punchers with a lot to prove. For Korobov, beating Golovkin would be a sure way to skyrocket to the very top and be in line for a huge payday. For Gennady, losing would be a devastating crack to his solid career, but a win would get him a step closer to facing some of the biggest names in boxing.

Will this fight actually happen? I don’t think that money would ever be an issue in for this proposed event for either of the fighters, but we all know how promotional companies work, and Top Rank will certainly weigh in all the options before moving forward.
