Kiko Martinez Confident Of Beating Scott Quigg

Spain’s former IBF super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez fights WBA (reg) 122 lb champion Scott Quigg in Manchester on Saturday night, headlining Matchroom’s ‘High Stakes’ card, and ‘La Sensacion’ is feeling in a confident mood, telling Sky Sports that not only does he have the beating of Quigg, he believes Northern Ireland’s Carl Frampton has his number too.

Quigg and Frampton are on an eventual collision course, with negotiations between them having broken down recently, and Martinez, who lost to Frampton twice, thinks that’s probably a good thing for Quigg, who he cannot see beating the Irishman.

“In my opinion Frampton is better than Quigg and I think that he would win by KO.” said the Spaniard.

“I think that Carl is better than Guillermo Rigondeaux and Leo Santa Cruz (too), he would win both those fights I am sure.”

And of his own chances against Englishman Quigg on Saturday, Martinez was clear;

“I believe I will beat Quigg… I will not go crazy, we have a fight plan for 12 rounds and I will follow it. If I win by knockout it will be better, but the goal is the belt.”

“I had been waiting to fight the WBA bantamweight champion Juan Carlos Payano but when my team told me about fighting Scott I had no doubts. All these months I have been training so hard and I feel great, I’m in a perfect physical condition.”

And Martinez has warned the division that he isn’t done just yet, and would like to fight the likes of Rigo, Leo Santa Cruz, or even a 3rd fight with Frampton, who took Kiko’s IBF title last September.

“If I beat Quigg, maybe a third fight with Frampton is on the cards? I am always ready to fight against Frampton.”

“I am a competitor and always believe in myself. I am ready to face other champions as well like Rigo or Leo among others, (but) first I have to beat Quigg.”

Scott Quigg v Kiko Martinez will be broadcast on Sky Sports this Saturday.
