Khan wants Mayweather and Pacquiao in 2015

Amir Khan isn’t satisfied with possibly getting a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2015. If that fight happens, Khan says he then hopes to fight Manny Pacquiao at the end of the year. If Khan gets his wish, he’ll have faced the two biggest stars in the sport of boxing in one year.

Khan is one of the candidates for Mayweather’s next fight in early 2015.

Mayweather recently said that he’s not interested in facing Khan, because the fight he wants is against Pacquiao on May 2nd. However, Mayweather may have no other choice but to fight Khan if he can’t get a fight against Pacquiao in the first part of the year.

“The plan would be the Mayweather fight in May, because he likes to fight in May,” Khan said via Skysports.com. “At the end of the year I’d love the Manny Pacquiao fight – I think that fight could definitely happen and I’d be confident I could win that. I think it’s a great time to catch those guys,” Khan said.

Mayweather said recently in an interview that he felt that Khan’s name isn’t well-known in the U.S, and that he failed to bring in a lot of fans for his recent fight against Devon Alexander. For this reason, Mayweather was saying Khan didn’t fit the requirements for one of his opponents. However, if the Pacquiao fight fails to materialize for Mayweather then he may have little choice but to fight Khan.

The alternatives are pretty bleak for Mayweather once you get past Khan. He could fight Keith Thurman, Kell Brook or Shawn Porter at welterweight. If Mayweather wanted to dip into the light welterweight division to try and find an opponent, he could pick someone like Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson or Lucas Matthysse. The best option for Mayweather would be for him to fight Garcia, as he has a fairly large fan base and he’s unbeaten.

Unfortunately for Mayweather it would prove difficult for him to set up a fight against Garcia because he’s been slow in making up his mind about whether he wants to fight at 147 or not. Garcia’s father Angel Garcia is careful about who his son fights against. As such, he’s probably not going to feed Danny to a quality fighter like Mayweather without having him fight a couple of times at welterweight to get used to the division.
