Khan confident he can get Pacquiao to UK for big fight

Amir Khan didn’t have much luck in getting Floyd Mayweather Jr to agree to fight him, so he’s now he’s put his focus on trying to get the highly popular Manny Pacquiao to face him in 2015. Khan is hopeful that the 36-year-old Pacquiao will say yes to a fight with him, and then agree to fight him in the UK.

Khan would like to stage the Pacquiao fight in the huge 90,000 seat Wembley Stadium in London. Khan obviously believes that the two of them would be able to sell out the stadium in the same way that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch sold out the stadium in 2015 in his rematch with George Groves in May.

That was a big fight, but a match between Khan and Pacquiao would likely sell out the stadium as well and bring in excellent pay-per-view numbers in both the UK and the U.S.

”I could make money out of fighting Kell Brook but it’s not about the money for me. But Kell Brook is not in my sights at the moment,” Khan said via theboltonnews.com. “I have proven myself at top level and want the big fights. I believe Manny Pacquiao would come to England and fight me here. I would love to fight at Wembley stadium.”

Khan is saving the Kell Brook fight for after he’s faced Pacquiao or Mayweather. Khan feels that the Brook fight will always be there for him in the future. If Khan can’t get the Pacquiao fight in 2015, then he’s going to need to fight other welterweights to stay active while he waits for Pacquiao to eventually give him a shot. The question is how long Amir Khan can keep the Brook fight on the shelf before something catastrophic happens like either of them getting beaten.

Brook is a good fighter, but he’s definitely beatable. His win over Shawn Porter last August was far from a dominating performance. As for Khan, he would need to be steered around a number of fighters in the welterweight division like Keith Thurman, Porter, Marcos Maidana and Luis Carlos Abregu.

If Khan’s not going to fight Brook while he waits patiently for a fight against Manny Pacquiao or Mayweather then he’ll need to face other top fighters. It’s going to look rather odd if Khan continues to be matched up against non-punchers and other beatable fighters recently coming off losses. We haven’t really seen Khan against a real test since his loss to Danny Garcia, and three years ago. It’s been soft jobs since then for the most part for Khan.
