Kell Brook: I Believe I Can Beat Floyd Mayweather

There is still a degree of uncertainty surrounding September 12th for Britain’s IBF 147 lb champion Kell Brook. While mooted to be facing American brawler Brandon Rios on that date, the Sheffield fighter is still one of the names in the hat as a potential Floyd Mayweather opponent on the same date – and has spoken out to Sky Sports to insist that he is one of the few fighters out there able to cause Floyd real problems in the ring should that be the fight that comes off for him.

With Bob Arum recently suggesting the choice lies with Rios himself as to whether or not he ends up traveling to the UK to fight Brook, it’s clear that “The Special One” is keeping his options open.

He said of the potential Rios clash;

“Yeah, we’re very close to making that fight happen now and it’s looking like it will be on September 12th.”

“There’s also another fighter whose wanting to fight on that day, and that’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. If he wants to compete at welterweight and unify the division then it’s a natural choice to fight me. He’s boxed at a really high level against Manny Pacquiao but is now talking other names that bring nothing to the table.”

“Me, I’m unbeaten, I bring a world title to the table and I believe I can beat Floyd.”

“If I were him, I’d keep well away from me. I’m hungry and I want to take that zero and turn it into a one. People would be really excited by that fight. There’s me – and Keith Thurman – that can cause Mayweather problems.”

Whether or not he does fight Rios or possibly Mayweather, Brook insists he is ready. Be it here in England against Brandon or in Vegas against Floyd – September 12th is the next time the public will see Kell Brook.

“I’d love to take the task of beating Floyd Mayweather. I’m going to be ready for September 12th whether it’s Rios or Mayweather.”
