Trusts Arena, Auckland. On the undercard returning Polish Heavyweight Izu Ugonoh scored a 2nd round TKO against Junior Iakopo to take his record to 10-0 (8KO’s).

In front of a raucous home crowd at Trusts Arena, Joseph Parker pounded out a unanimous decision against a very durable and game Sherman Williams.

Parker came out in the first round establishing the distance with what is becoming his trademark jab, doubling it up as well as shooting it to the body, leaving Williams looking unsure of how he could find a way inside.

Action heated up in the second with Williams catching Parker with a looping right hand momentarily backing Parker up, Parker immediately responded with a left hook resuming control of the round.

Rounds 3 through 1o saw Parker working the right hand off his jab and pounding Williams to the body slowly breaking him down.

Parker hurt Williams a multiplicity of times in the 9th round with right hooks and uppercuts, while Williams called on all his experience to survive the round.

The 10th was probably the best round of the fight for Williams with Parker cruising to the finish line.

With the win Parker improves to 11-0 (9 KO’s ) while Williams drops to 37 (KO’s 19)-13-2

Williams predictably cried robbery making one of the more bizarre claims in boxing stating “I hurt him with 4 right hands in 4 rounds, that is at least four 10-8 rounds to me.”

We advise that Sherman not consider a career in judging after retiring from the sport.

Parker team plans on having him fight again in December and are actively seeking a top 10 opponent to face him. As usual the politics are sure to play a part as to whether this can be achieved or not.
