Golovkin Fancies The Mayweather Fight

Murderous punching 160lb champion Gennady Golovkin has become the latest fighter to throw his name into the hat for a possible bout with Floyd Mayweather, yet the Kazakh fighter remains realistic at the chances of the clash happening in September for Mayweather’s “final” fight.

The unbeaten KO artist, who must first take care of business on May 16 against Willie Monroe Jr told Sky Sports;

“Of course that is my dream fight. Obviously Floyd is a great champion with a bit of a different style.”

“He is a smart guy who does a lot of moving. My style is a little bit different – I like drama, I like a real fight, I like close fights. I like a big show with drama!”

If it’s drama Golovkin is after then he is probably best staying away from Mayweather. Whilst he has said he would happily boil down to 154 for that fight, he also insisted his focus remains on cleaning up at 160 – and desires fights with WBO champion Andy Lee and WBC champion Miguel Cotto – who himself is fast becoming the latest in a long line of “catchweight kings.”

The Abel Sanchez trained man said;

“Right now my focus is on 160. My goal is to hold all the belts. I hope for a big fight with Miguel Cotto because he has the WBC title and I have the interim belt and of course I want a unification fight with Andy Lee. I think he’s ready (Lee is currently injured) and of course, my dream fight eventually, is against Floyd.”
