Ghana’s Ashie faces Kamote of Tanzania in Accra for WBO Africa title

It’s Ghana versus Tanzania in the boxing ring tonight at the Accra Sports Stadium when George Ashie and Allan Kamote clash for the WBO Africa Interim Lightweight championship over twelve rounds.

Both boxers successfully made the weight at the pre-fight weigh-in on Thursday at the same Accra Sports Stadium, 132 lbs Ashie clocked as he stepped on the scale whilst Kamote weighed 134 lbs, setting the stage for the two boxers to slug it out on Friday night.

And confident in his own ability to outlast his opponent come this evening is former Commonwealth Lightweight champion, Ashie (24-4-1, 17 KOs in 29 professional fights) despite confessing to the strengths of the 32 year old Kamote (25-7-4, 14 KOs), the current Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) Lightweight world champion.

“I have watched some videos of his fights and I can tell you my opponent is a fast boxer and he is also a world champion so it won’t be easy,” Ashie revealed.

“But my coach is ready to prepare me very well for this fight. I will do possible things to win this fight. He cannot stand in my way,” Ashie added much to the approval of his renowned trainer, Godwin Nii Djanie Kotey AKA Coach Alloway, the same man who trains former world champion, Joshua Clottey.

But undaunted is Allan Kamote, the Tanzanian has been talking tough since arriving in Accra last week.

“I am here to win and I am not afraid of the home crowd who I know will all be supporting Ashie. I have trained really well for this fight and there is nothing that can prevent me from beating my opponent and win the belt. I will knock him out by round 4,” Kamote has sworn.

Code-named ‘Fist of Fury’ tonight’s boxing show will be the maiden event for new entrants on the Ghanaian boxing scene, McDon Promotions who are doing this in collaboration with Alex Ntiamoah Boakye’s renowned Box Office Sports Promotions.

“It’s good to have good boxers face each other, that’s all we are about at McDon Promotions. We promise the fans to come in their numbers because they won’t like to miss the show we expect the two boxers to put up,” McDon Atitsogbe, CEO of McDon Promotions said.

“It’s going to be a very exciting night not just good fights but also we have surprises for fans who will be at the stadium because we’ll have some of Ghana’s top musicians performing some of the hit songs in this country during breaks,”Mr. Atitsogbe added.

In the event, the undercard have some mouthwatering bouts to white the appetite of fight fans who will make it to the fight this evening.

World title chasing Maxwell ‘Black Wolf’ Amponsah will slug it out against Ebenezer ‘Uppercut’ Tetteh for the WBA Pan-Africa Heavyweight title whilst highly rated Prince Octopus Dzanie faces Michael Barnor for the Ghana and West Africa Bantamweight belt.

Other fights include the Ghana national Featherweight championship featuring George Krampah against Thompson Arap Moi and Emmanuel Quartey AKA Akufo Addo versus Emmanuel Laryea in a Bantamweight contest.

The night of ‘Fist of Fury’ is completed by two Middleweight contests, Aryee Ayittey versus Eric Kwadey and Emmanuel Martey against Atta Nsor.
