Froch Under Fire / Fast Food Jibe For Rafael

If you happen to follow the twitter of ESPN writer Dan Rafael, then you may have seen the rather humorous exchange that took place yesterday regarding Carl Froch and his Golovkin assertions, that began when he posted a selfie on social media alongside the caption, ‘Too big & too strong for GGG’ – this in the same week that respected publication Boxing News ran a Q & A feature on Froch, carrying the headline quote; “I’ll likely retire.”

It’s pretty well known that when Golovkin’s manager Tom Loeffler seemingly went looking for Froch, he was met with a wall of silence after having opened initial talks with Carl’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Yet still Froch insists with baiting social messages aimed at the Kazakh puncher – who was and is willing to move up in weight to 168 to face “The Cobra”

Rafael, who is finding Froch’s behaviour as confusing as the rest of the boxing media, took to twitter and was met with some signature British banter from the Nottingham fighter, who took to poking fun at the writers rather “portly” frame with some rather handy fast-food emoticons.

Rafael wrote;

“If @Carl_Froch thinks he’s too big and strong for @GGGBoxing wonderful. Then fight the guy and prove it. Simple as that. Otherwise, silence.”

Froch hit back;

“@danrafaelespn You should know as much as anyone, boxing is never that “simple” So say something constructive, otherwise, silence.”

Rafael, perhaps choosing to ignore the burger and fries emoticons that followed Froch’s message, said;

“And if @eddiehearn needs any phone numbers I’m happy to help.”

Froch, clearly enjoying the emoticon feature on his phone, then added;

“@danrafaelespn I’m sure you could, but I don’t think Eddie Hearn calls numbers of that nature!”

2 handy “call girl” type pics followed that one!

Whether Rafael needs that kind of assistance with his sex life is anybody’s guess! But in this exchange Froch’s facetious tone tells you everything you need to know about how much he really wants a Golovkin fight.

His constant preening and posturing in the media is reminiscent of David Haye – another once great British fighter who is fast losing – or should I say has lost – the respect of large swathes of fans for what amounts to nothing more than “talk” and a desire to stay in the spotlight – all without punching anybody in the face.

That’s what reality TV is for – and Froch, like Haye, is already something of a veteran.

Though I guess at least the Hayemaker didn’t wear a leotard!
