Frankie Gavin: “Let’s See Who Takes The Best Shot”

This Saturday sees the Matchroom Sport ‘Rule Britannia’ show from London’s O2, which will be co-headlined by IBF 147lb champion Kell Brook, defending his title against countryman Frankie Gavin.

Ahead of the bout, the former world amateur champion spoke to fighthype.com to say he plans on grabbing his opportunity with both hands, insisting he will get to Brook, who – just a couple of days ago – tweeted he would end Gavin inside 3 rounds.

Gavin said;

“I find that laughable really. It’s not like I’ve got a bad chin or anything – and if he hits me, I’m gonna take it and come back with one of my own. People talk about his KO rate? I mean, he does knock people out but not asleep.”

“It’s not like I’m gonna be there for him to hit with these big shots. To hit me he’s gonna have to work for it. He’s not gonna be able to hit me with ease. I’m gonna be able to hit him as well – let’s see how he takes it, ’cause he doesn’t like getting hit either.”

“We’ll see who takes the best shot and who gets hit the most on the night – but (to say) 3 rounds is laughable.”

Of his potential to cause Brook problems with his skill and movement – something he feels Brook hasn’t been faced with before – he said;

“I’m the best fighter Kell’s fought – whether he admits it or not. Without a doubt. (Shawn) Porter brought something a bit different to the table – a bit rugged, a bit crude – but technically I’m very well schooled and I pick my punches and let my shots off.”

“I’m gonna be coming to give him big problems and I’m sure I will.”

“I won’t be scared of him. I ain’t scared of no one. So come fight night, I’ll be coming out there to win.”

Brook v Gavin is joint headliner alongside Kevin Mitchell’s WBC 135lb clash with Jorge Linares and Lee Selby’s challenge to IBF 126lb champion Evengey Gradovich.

All the action will be on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.
