Dillian Whyte to enter the increasingly interesting UK Heavyweight scene

UK heavyweight Dillian Whyte fought his first decent heavyweight in Marcelo Luiz Nascimento (17-8-0 15KO) on 7th February 2015. Whyte made short work of the Brazilian heavyweight in getting him out of there in the second round.

Whyte has not been getting the same attention as Anthony Joshua, but is a decent prospect in his own right. This was the fastest Nascimento had been stopped and should propel Whyte into some better fights. I think this is the kind of performance which give him and his team the confidence to pursue some better opposition.

Whyte fought Joshua in the amateurs and beat him, he knocked Joshua down in that fight and with both fighters now climbing the pro ranks I am sure it is something they both remember well. What we will likely see is a rematch at some point with the two now in the paid ranks of the sport. This is a fight we will not see for a good while as Whyte needs to build his name and reputation as a fighter so that when the do clash it will be a big deal in the UK, like when undefeated talents George Groves and James DeGale met.

The style that these two guys bring to the ring would make for an extremely interesting matchup with likely hundreds of punches thrown. As I said it is simply a case of waiting for Whyte’s stock to rise to the point where his name carries some weight. Right now that opportunity would be wasted as Whyte has not built himself up to the point where that fight would be a big deal. Nevertheless the pair of them are 23-0-0 (20KO) and that is a very impressive set of figures.

Even if that matchup doesn’t come off, Whyte has a career of his own to be excited about without the Joshua match. The heavyweight scene is really picking up and in a few years he can really make an impact on it should he be matched well.
