Undefeated WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has revealed in his latest interview with fighthype.com that he is eyeing a ring return on June 13th in his home state of Alabama.

The big punching American, who has been out of action since winning the title in January against Canada-based Haitian Bermane Stiverne, broke his hand in that fight yet has promised his fans he is now more than ready to return.

“I will be back in the ring June 13th. Back in the state of Alabama, in Birmingham. And that’s my next fight. No opponent has been announced yet – we still gotta lot of ironing out to do – but June 13th I’ll be back.”

Speculation surrounding Wilder facing Shannon Briggs next appears to be just that at the moment, yet when you are the heavyweight champion of the world the quality of your opposition is scrutinised carefully.

However, regardless of who he faces the Olympic medalist plans on defending his title regularly by staying as active as possible. This year he wants to get 3 fights out.

“We gonna re-arrange the game of boxing baby, that’s what it’s all about. Putting your face out there, putting that title on the line so people can see you.”

Yet acutely aware of a fighter’s longevity, especially at the top, Wilder said;

“I only got 10 years I wanna be in this and then I’m outta here. I got so many other things that I wanna do, so while my 10 years is here I wanna fight as much as possible”

“I always said I wanna be undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and that’s what I’m gonna do.”

Refreshing attitude from the champ. The fight everyone wants to see, against Britain’s Tyson Fury will be on the back-burner for now as the giant Manchester based fighter is enforcing his mandatory status to Wladimir Klitschko – another fight the fans would like to see for Wilder and judging from his own comments above – a fight Deontay wants too.

If Klitschko can retire after beating both Fury and Wilder then he will cement his own legacy. Yet there is no doubt the two brash young fighters are going to have other ideas. The heavyweight division may finally be heating up a little!
