Could anyone at 140 beat Danny Garcia today?

Danny Garcia is set to fight Lamont Peterson in his next outing. Other big names include the winner of Matthysse vs Provodnikov, the winner of Broner vs Molina and a few others including Amir Imam, Jessie Vargas, Viktor Postol and Thomas Dulorme. The question is, could any of these fighters beat the lineal champ Garcia if they tried today?

Garica holds the WBA, WBC and The Ring titles, Peterson holds the IBF share and the WBO is currently vacant. This means that after the clash with Peterson there will only be one relevant champion in the division, despite the fact their titles are not on the line officially. After that who knows what the next step is for Garcia, he can chose to make another defence of his titles at 140 or move up for more lucrative bouts at 147 and attempt at his second weight class.

Provided he stays at 140 is there really anyone who can beat him at that weight. We have already seen him succeed against Matthysse and that would suggest that he could again handle him should he win that fight, Prodovnikov would also likely be a similar result as the two share a style. After that you have undefeated but largely untested fighters in Imam, Vargas and Postol. Each other these fighters has some real strengths in their skill set and could potentially beaet Garica. However it is correct to think that they would all be large underdogs due to their lack of big match experience and it is likely that Garcia would only fight one of them before moving up so the odds would be on him to pull that one out of the bag.

Aside from Thomas Dulorme who is a previously beaten fighter that leaves Adrien Broner. Broner would have to manage a win over John Molina, but this would set up a fantastic match for the two, although I don not see it happening. That is probably the best fight the division could see right now at that weight. Its is as close to an even matchup as could be made since Matthysse lost to Garcia. A more likely scenario would be Adrien Broner picking up his fourth weight world title in a WBO vacant match or in a win over Peterson who would still hold his IBF strap despite a loss to Garcia. Less exciting fights for the fans but nevertheless this would crown Broner as a four weight world champion and he is pretty young for that kind of honour.
