Collazo wants Khan on Mayweather-Maidana undercard

Luiz Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) is a veteran that has had his share of big fights. He was a top contender in the welterweight division and gave Andre Berto and Ricky Hatton tough fights when they were in their prime. Time has passed and Collazo went under the radar because he wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt in those fights that some even say he won.

Collazo caught a break last month though when he took on Victor Ortiz in a fight that many cast him as the underdog. Collazo scored a surprising first round knockout that rocked Ortiz to the point where he basically quit. Once that fight was over Collazo immediately threw out Floyd Mayweather’s name and let the crowd know he was interested in making big fights. Now that Floyd has already picked Marcos Maidana for his May 3rd fight this year Louis is left with the question of what next?

Word is that Amir Khan is on Collazo’s radar which won’t be an easy fight for the British challenger. Louis is no pushover and is a good counter puncher; his skill usually causes problems for many fighters. Recently Collazo signed with adviser Al Haymon so we can expect him to get more exposure and bigger fights.

If Louis can get the Amir Khan fight and win that will definitely put Khan out of the Mayweather sweepstakes and enter Collazo in. I know there is talk of Khan fighting Adrien Broner and that would be a good fight to see but I don’t see what Khan would gain from beating someone like Broner who is just coming off a loss. Khan would have a better chance of getting the Floyd fight if he focused on beating someone coming off a big win…someone possibly by the name of Louis Collazo. The fight won’t be as big as the Broner-Khan fight but I would say it’s the next best thing for both men.
