The “Polish Prince” Ryan Kielczewski goes to 20-0
St. Charles, MO– Ryan Kielczewski, 24, the pride of Quincy, Massachusetts went to 20-0 (4 KO’s) with an eight round unanimous decision over Ramsey Luna. Luna, 22, of Corpus Christi, Texas now stands at 12-2 (5 KO’s). The Ameristar Casino crowd never got enthused with the plodding and lackluster match. The win puts Kielczewski into a great position for a super flyweight title bout. Kielczewski kept scoring with a methodical style.
With the win, Kielczewski, who has been branded as Boston’s “Polish Prince” should be in-line for a title fight. The fight was the lead in to the main event on the Friday Night Fights telecast on ESPN.
The 10 round lightweight match between Ukrainian Ivan Redkach, 28, and Sergey Gulyakevich of Belarus was also slow and soggy. Redkach, now 17-0 (13 KO’s) got the unanimous decision but could have put Gulyakevich earlier. ESPN analyst Teddy Altas kept the home audience intrigued by encouraging left upper-cuts from Redkach. They never happened. The loser just didn’t have enough strength to overtake the more aggressive Redkach. Referee Steve Smoger warned Gulyakevich for hanging on in the eighth round but did not minus a point.
Gulyakevich, 33, went to a credible 41-3 (17 KO’s) but this just wasn’t his night. Redkach, now boxing out of Los Angeles, was initially scheduled to fight former world junior lightweight title holder Vitali Tajbert. Tajbert suffered an ankle injury during training and was forced to withdraw. Gulyakevich was offered the fight just two weeks ago as a replacement for Tajbert.
“When the fight was offered, I didn’t hesitate for a minute to take it,” said Gulyakevitch. “I hope we can rematch, I will be ready. My current manager, Derek Waddell, will have me ready. Things will look up again,” Gulyakevich said.” In 2008 Gulyakevitch had a decision over Tajbert. Gulyakevitch had won his previous 15 fights.
