Booth: Haye-Charr fight is postponed, and not cancelled

haye34Earlier today news came out about former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye suffering an injury to his left hand will prevent him from facing Manuel Charr on June 29th at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. At the time, Haye wasn’t saying about whether the fight was cancelled or postponed.

Well, Haye’s trainer/manager Adam Booth is now saying that Haye’s fight with Charr is postponed and not cancelled. He doesn’t know when Haye’s left hand will be healed because he dislocated it, but it likely is more than a month before he’s able to resume training with that kind of injury.

Booth said to Sky Sports “Training on Sunday, he felt pain, it got worse, he tried to carry on with it and by the end of the session he couldn’t get the glove off. So that’s it. He’s got to rest. The fight is postponed. There was a dislocation in the hand and we’re just waiting to see how long everything around the dislocation will take to heal.”

Haye probably doesn’t have to worry much about Charr losing interest in the fight and going in another direction because he really wants this fight because he’s got his mind made up that a win over Haye will lead to a rematch against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who trounced him last September in a 4th round stoppage. Charr really wants that rematch with Vitali, even though the chances of him ever getting one are virtually nonresistant. I think it’s going to take a lot more than a win over Haye for him to get a rematch with Vitali.

Haye had the chance to tell people earlier today that the fight with Charr was merely being postponed and not cancelled. I wonder why Haye didn’t say anything when he had the chance before. Is it because he was thinking of not fighting Charr and then changed his mind or did he just forget to mention that part? It does seem very strange because he talked a lot but failed to say anything about the fight being postponed.
