Ashie versus Tagoe fixed for November 11 in Accra
By Prince Dornu-Leiku: Ghana’s much anticipated boxing showdown between local big boys George Ashie AKA Red Tiger and Emmanuel Tagoe famously nicknamed Game Boy has now been fixed for the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday November 11, its official. At stake is the WBO International Lightweight belt for the winner of the main event featuring reigning Commonwealth Lightweight champ Ashie (23-3-1, 16 KOs) against former IBF Intercontinental Junior Lightweight titlist Tagoe (18-1, 8 KOs), on the night dubbed ‘The Clash of the Kings.’
It will be the rookie promotion for Ghana national soccer team star Asamoah Gyan as his recently licensed Baby Jet Promotions stage a total of about 6 fights in collaboration with Accra based Box Office Sports Promotions headed by Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye. It’s also organised in association with FightNight GH on Africa’s leading sports TV, Supersport on DSTV.
Both boxers have been engaged in verbal exchanges and signed a contract to honour the much anticipated fight over a month ago. Red Tiger and Game Boy have since been training fervently for the big night also nicknamed ‘The Dream Match,’ at the Ghana’s number one sports stadium.
A press conference to announce details of the fight is planned early next week to be led by Baby Jet Promotions President Asamoah Gyan himself who has arrived in the country for next week’s Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier between the Black Stars and Malawi.
