Ward vs. Rodriguez
If Floyd Mayweather Jnr is a unanimous pick as the sport’s premier pound-for-pound talent, Andre Ward is the strongest candidate to emerge as his heir apparent.
The Oakland super-middle – USA’s last Olympic champion after striking gold at light-heavy at the 2004 Athens Games – carved a formidable rep by scalping the likes of Mikkel Kessler, Sakio Bika, Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch en route to winning Showtime’s prestigious Super Six tourney in 2011.
The self proclaimed ‘Son Of God’ further advanced his standing by systematically dismantling reigning WBC light-heavy boss Chad Dawson inside ten rounds in a 12stone defence last September.
However, surgery to repair the rotary cuff on his right shoulder has rendered the 29 year old dormant for the past 14 months so he’ll no doubt be eager to remind the trade of his formidable talent when he defends his WBA Super title at The Citizen’s Business Bank Arena, Ontario, in his home state of California this Saturday evening. Boxing’s best super middleweight, Andre Ward, returns to the ring this Saturday following a 14-month layoff, adamant he can take advantage of his opponent’s all guns blazing approach.
The WBA super-middleweight world champion, who also holds The Ring Magazine equivalent, is set to make his eagerly anticipated return this weekend against the undefeated Edwin Rodriguez, after being out of action for over a year due to a shoulder injury.
Fighting in front of his native Californian crowd at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, the 29-year-old is out to show there is little in the way of ring rust and that the sparkle which saw him overcome Chad Dawson so comprehensively in his last outing, back in September 2012, very much remains. The long wait for WBA and Ring Magazine Super Middleweight World Champion Andre Ward’s (Oakland, Calif.) return to the ring is nearly over. Saturday’s bout marks Ward’s first fight in 14 months following surgery to repair a right shoulder injury that the 29-year-old boxer recently revealed he’s had for over 15 years. Ward exasperated the rotator cuff tear in preparation for a scheduled bout with Kelly Pavlik late last year, and the injury required major surgery in January. Continue reading

SHERMAN OAKS, CA (October 24, 2013) – In his last fight against unbeaten Cleveland native Mickey Bey back in July of this year, Covina, Calif. lightweight John Molina Jr. looked like he may have trouble with the faster and accurate punching Bey. That presumption became more evident as the rounds went by.
Although Molina was able to land one hellacious shot after another. Bey was just as able to withstand them through the first nine rounds. It wasn’t until the 10th and final round Molina unleashed a series of these dangerous blows that put Bey into another hemisphere and provided Molina with the win and a “Knockout of the Year” candidate.
