Okay, you read the headline. It should probably say “these days” or “to Wladimir” but it doesn’t. I think the first time I saw Shannon Briggs was as a teenager when he got knocked out by Lennox Lewis after being gifted a decision against an ancient George Foreman in his famous 90’s return. Still, I remember being reasonably impressed by the American fighter, despite the result, and followed most of his ups and downs all the way through the 2000’s until his absolute hammering and retirement to Vitali Klitschko in 2010. A fight that became famous for the severe and sustained beating that Briggs endured. Continue reading
Shannon Briggs says so…”I have a date with Klitschko set for September, if not sooner,” Briggs told Buncey’s Boxing Podcast on ESPN.co.uk. According to various German boxing news sites, K2 have already booked the 02 Arena in Hamburg for a September showdown between the two heavyweights. Wladimir Klitschko, who is tired of being stalked by Briggs, also confirmed that he is ready to “punish” Briggs and is willing to fight him now.
Briggs confirms to ESPN.co.uk: “His people have confirmed that – we’ve got a date. We’re looking at September. We’re looking at Hamburg, but hopefully we can change that venue to somewhere in America. That’s what we’re working on. Hopefully it can happen, if not in September then July or August. I feel great, I’m in phenomenal shape. I’m looking forward to fighting soon. The world wants to see me and Klitschko fight. I don’t know why he’s fighting Jennings. No one knows Jennings. This is a fight no one wants, that no one cares about. This is about money and glory, let’s’make it happen in New York City.”
Wladimir Klitschko, who is fighting Bryant Jennings on April 25th in New York, says he is completely tired of Shannon Briggs and his antics. Klitschko told German newspaper Sport-Bild: “Shannon Briggs has completely crossed the line. I am tired of him. I now want to fight and punish him.” Klitschko said.
Klitschko: “I understand Briggs, he wants promote himself and get a title fight just like David Haye, Tyson Fury, Manuel Charr and Marco Huck did in the past. None of these guys promoted themselves better as Briggs though…the only problem is that he crossed a line. Briggs doesn`t know when enough is enough, it`s not funny anymore.”
According to popular German boxing news sites, K2 promotions have already booked the 02 Arena in Hamburg for a Klitschko-Briggs showdown in September.
In a recent interview with RTL, Wladimir Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente has stated that the Ukrainian champion has reserved a fight venue is Munich, Germany just in case their negotiations with camp Jennings for April 25th in New York don’t pan out.
Hearing this sort of news a few months back, I would call the bluff. Of all the heavyweight bouts out there, Klitschko vs. Briggs was not fathomable. But as the popular belief of hard work paying off goes, it looks as though Briggs’s efforts are showing results.
In an interview with the same television channel RTL, Wladimir himself declared that he would like to fight another American besides Jennings: Shannon Briggs. Continue reading

#1 WBC Deontay Wilder thinks that 42-year-old Shannon Briggs (55-6-1, 48 KOs) is wasting his time following IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko around trying to get a fight with him by getting into confrontations with him at his gym, in restaurants and at press conferences. It has been a little over a week since Shannon Briggs stormed into a restaurant where Wladimir Klitschko was having a meal, and took it took far with his antics, eating Wladimir’s food and promising to follow him everywhere he goes. This must have been that very last straw, because this time, even though calm and composed, Klitschko poured a glass of water over Shannon’s head, sending Briggs into a frenzy, resulting in broken glassware and cuts.
Clearly this incident did nothing to settle the situation, as Briggs is back on Wladimir’s back, threatening more action: “As soon as I see you, I will hot you in the face. Your fat security guard approached me from the back and grabbed me. That’s cool. I even cut my foot on your glass jaw. Nobody cares about your fight against Pulev, while the entire world is talking about us. Let’s do this!” said Briggs.
“This was 100% real, not staged,” added Briggs about that restaurant brawl. Continue reading
Thus far, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has missed out on the mega-fights that we saw from former champions like Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. But that could change with the hype that 42-year-old Shannon Briggs is singlehandedly creating by following Wladimir Klitschko around the globe and getting in his face at every opportunity to force him to fight him.
Briggs has been ignored by Klitschko so far, but Briggs doesn’t care about that. He plans on continuing his one-man campaign to get the fight with the Ukrainian fighter. While it may not be working for Briggs right now, he’s steadily building interest in fight between him and Wladimir Klitschko in Germany.
The fans over in Germany are being bombarded constant news about Briggs’ confrontations with Klitschko. At this point a fight between Briggs and Wladimir Klitschko would likely be the biggest match of his career. That’s unfortunately more of an indication of the lack of interesting opponents that Wladimir has had than an endorsement of Briggs. Klitschko has faced largely unknown fighters or guys that were played out by the time he did face them. Continue reading
by TMZSports: Ex-heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs went toe-to-toe with Wladimir Klitschko in the most insane way — but did it in flip flops — and ended up landing himself in the hospital with an injured foot.
According to Shannon … he saw Wlad eating at a restaurant in Miami, walked up to him and had the balls to start eating food right off his plate! Briggs says Wlad got pissed and poured out a glass of water on him.
Briggs slipped and fell because he was wearing flip flops … he claims, and also because one of Wlad’s boys was rushing him.
Of course Briggs has been hounding Klitschko — earlier this week he interrupted the champ’s training session, repeatedly called him a coward … and tried to taunt him into a fight.
