LAS VEGAS (June 27, 2014) – Undefeated Errol Spence, Jr. didn’t lose a round and may have made the transition from prospect to contender in a dominating unanimous decision victory (100-90 three times) over the durable Ronald Cruz in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation on SHOWTIME® from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Spence (13-0, 10 KOs) was remarkably efficient with his power punches, landing 282 shots compared to Cruz’s 65 at a rate of 58 percent. Looking like a potential future world champion, the 2012 U.S. Olympian was technically sound and sharp with his punches, picking apart the courageous Cruz (20-4, 15 KOs) as he went past the eighth round for the first time in his career. In an incredible finish, Bethlehem (PA) Ronald Cruz, who appeared to be losing on points after nine hard rounds, finally broke down Alberto Morales, of Miami, with two knockdowns early in round 10, the second one for the full 10-count. Thgough most ringsiders had Cruz trailing, he actually led 86-85 on two scorecards and was down 86-85 on the third. Cruz goes to 19-2, 14 K0s; Morales falls to 11-3-2, 8 K0s.
Hot junior lightweight prospect Jason Sosa, of Camden, NJ, used a lethal left hook to the body to knock out Tyrone Luckey, of Middletown, NJ, in the second round.

Bethlehem, PA: Gamalier Rodriguez retained his NABO featherweight title with a hard-fought 10-round decision over tougher-than-expected Jorge Pazos in the 10-round main event in front of 1,152 fans at the Sands Casino Resort.
Rodriguez, 125.3, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, worked well to the body and was just a bit quicker than Pazos, 125, Guamuchil, Mexico, winning by scores of 98-92 and 98-91 twice. The wide scores were not indicative of the competitive nature of the match.
The win marked Rodriguez’ first defense of his NABO belt and brought his record to 22-2-3, 15 K0s. The loss dropped Pazos to 19-6-1, 13 K0s. Continue reading

The fight will be part of the NBC Sports Network Fight Night broadcast, beginning 9PM ET on the 21st.
