Errol Spence Jr. Impresses With Resounding Victory Over Ronald Cruz Friday on ShoBox: The New Generation

LAS VEGAS (June 27, 2014) – Undefeated Errol Spence, Jr. didn’t lose a round and may have made the transition from prospect to contender in a dominating unanimous decision victory (100-90 three times) over the durable Ronald Cruz in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation on SHOWTIME® from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Spence (13-0, 10 KOs) was remarkably efficient with his power punches, landing 282 shots compared to Cruz’s 65 at a rate of 58 percent. Looking like a potential future world champion, the 2012 U.S. Olympian was technically sound and sharp with his punches, picking apart the courageous Cruz (20-4, 15 KOs) as he went past the eighth round for the first time in his career. Conditioning certainly wasn’t an issue for the 24-year-old, who threw more punches in the 10th and final round (114) than he did in any other round in the fight. Continue reading

Bethlehem, PA—Hoping to capitalize on his last two knockout wins, hometown welterweight Ronald Cruz goes against Hector Munoz, of Albuquerque, NM, in the 10-round main event on Saturday evening, Nov. 16, in the Events Center at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem.

The Cruz-Morales fight ops a seven-bout card which begins at 7p.m.

In an incredible finish, Bethlehem (PA) Ronald Cruz, who appeared to be losing on points after nine hard rounds, finally broke down Alberto Morales, of Miami, with two knockdowns early in round 10, the second one for the full 10-count. Thgough most ringsiders had Cruz trailing, he actually led 86-85 on two scorecards and was down 86-85 on the third. Cruz goes to 19-2, 14 K0s; Morales falls to 11-3-2, 8 K0s.

Hot junior lightweight prospect Jason Sosa, of Camden, NJ, used a lethal left hook to the body to knock out Tyrone Luckey, of Middletown, NJ, in the second round.

Gamalier Rodriguez defeats Jorge Pazos; Cruz stops Armenta

08-10-13GamalierPazosactionpicBethlehem, PA: Gamalier Rodriguez retained his NABO featherweight title with a hard-fought 10-round decision over tougher-than-expected Jorge Pazos in the 10-round main event in front of 1,152 fans at the Sands Casino Resort.

Rodriguez, 125.3, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, worked well to the body and was just a bit quicker than Pazos, 125, Guamuchil, Mexico, winning by scores of 98-92 and 98-91 twice. The wide scores were not indicative of the competitive nature of the match.

The win marked Rodriguez’ first defense of his NABO belt and brought his record to 22-2-3, 15 K0s. The loss dropped Pazos to 19-6-1, 13 K0s. Continue reading

On September 21st Ronald Cruz of Bethlehem, PA, 17-0, 12 KO’s, will challenge Miami’s Antwone Smith, 21-4-1, 12 KO’s for the WBC Continental Americas Welterweight Title. In preparation for that battle Cruz hosted a media workout today in his hometown of Bethlehem, PA.

The fight will be part of the NBC Sports Network Fight Night broadcast, beginning 9PM ET on the 21st. The Cruz-Smith fight is part of a seven-bout card at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem that also includes a 12 round IBF Junior Middleweight eliminator between Gabriel Rosado and Charles Whittaker and a 10 round Light Heavyweight matchup pitting Sergey Kovalev against Lionell Thompson.
