Randy Caballero withdraws from IBF Bantamweight World Title defense

LOS ANGELES (Feb. 10) – Randy “El Matador” Caballero suffered an ankle injury during training camp and will not be able to defend his IBF Bantamweight World Title scheduled for Feb. 27 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Golden Boy Promotions held a press conference at the Golden Boy Building in Los Angeles on Thursday, Jan 22., to announce the Feb. 27 IBF Bantamweight World Championship fight between the titleholder Randy “El Matador” Caballero and Alberto “Metro” Guevara. The event was hosted by Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions and was attended by more than 50 local and international media outlets. After piling up 12 wins in 12 fights at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif., hometown hero Randy “El Matador” Caballero (22-0, 13 KOs) went on the road in search of a world championship. On October 25, it was mission accomplished for “El Matador” after he defeated England’s Stuart Hall in Monte Carlo. Promoter Dennis Hobson believes Saturday night’s (October 25) IBF world bantamweight title fight between Stuart Hall and Randy Caballero will steal the show on what is a packed weekend for televised boxing in the United Kingdom.

Darlington’s Hall and Californian Caballero meet live on Channel 5 from 8.30pm. Also on the show from Monte Carlo are middleweight fights between St. Helens’ WBC Silver champion Martin Murray and Domenico Spada, and Trowbridge’s Nick Blackwell and Belarusian dangerman Sergey Khomitsky. LOS ANGELES (October 9) – Since turning pro in 2010, Randy Caballero (21-0, 13 KOs) has become a staple of the Southern California fight scene, packing venues around the area as he made his way up the bantamweight ladder. But “El Matador” was not afraid to leave his comfort zone in April 2014, as he traveled to Kobe, Japan to defeat Kohei Oba via eighth-round technical knockout in an IBF Bantamweight Title elimination bout. The victory earned the 24-year-old Caballero a shot at a world championship on October 25 when he faces England’s Stuart Hall (18-3-2, 7 KOs) for the vacant IBF World Bantamweight Championship at Salle des’Etoiles in Monte Carlo.
