Quillin: Rosado will have to accept defeat

007 Quillin and Rosado faceoff IMG_0169 WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (29-0, 21 KO’s) sees himself winning on Saturday night in his title defense against Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Quillin, 30, sees himself getting a stoppage in over #9 WBO Rosado, and it’s difficult to disagree with that belief because this fight on paper looks to be about as competitive as Quillin’s first title defense against Fernando Guerrero.

That fight was a mismatch the moment it was signed and Quillin took a lot of heat from boxing fans for not taking on a more dangerous opponent. Now we’re getting a repeat of that with Quillin taking on another less than dangerous foe in Rosado, and naturally Quillin realizes that he’s likely to win easily.

Peter Quillin defends his middleweight title for the second time against the ever improving veteran Gabriel Rosado. The fight stands out to hardcore fans as the best matchup of Showtime Triple-header this Saturday night from Atlantic City, New Jersey. In the main even Bernard Hopkins attempts to add to his legend of longevity.

The unbeaten Quillin is on a mission to prove all of his doubters wrong with a great performance. Rosado, who claims he can’t get a legit fight at 154, travels north to 160 once again for a shot to win his first title.

They say the early bird gets the worm.

Jacobs, Quillin and Dirrell “Get In The Ring” To Knock Out Childhood Cancer, Obesity and Bullying

Yesterday, at the Starrett City Boxing Club in Brooklyn, the “Get In The Ring” foundation held its first ever awareness event. The charity targets childhood cancer, obesity and bullying and has been raising awareness since its inception earlier this year. Founder and cancer survivor Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs was joined by WBO middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin and super middleweight Anthony Dirrell.

Raffles were held to help raise money. With guests winning anything from signed boxing gloves, to a pair of tickets to see Jacobs fight Giovanni Lorenzno, August 19 at the Best Buy Theater in New York City.

“This feels better than the fight itself. I’m happy that a lot of people came out to support me,” Jacobs said. “I’m really trying to target some key issues in our community, so to know that people have my back means a lot to me.”

De La Hoya: Quillin’s the best middleweight in the division; he destroys everyone

Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions thinks his champion WBO middleweight belt holder Peter Quillin (29-0, 21 KO’s) is the best fighter in the 160 lb. division right now, and it appears that De La Hoya thinks WBA champion Gennady Golovkin is still unproven.

De La Hoya wants Golovkin to face Quillin’s recent victim former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, presumably in some kind of weeding out thing to get to Quillin.

De La Hoya said on his social media site “Hey Kid Chocolate how does it feel to be the best middleweight on the planet. My man Kid Chocolate will destroy any middleweight out there. I wanna see Golovkin vs. Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and then I’ll see if he’s good or not.”

By Paul Grunich: Golden Boy Promotions is reportedly looking to make a fight happen between former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (31-4-1, 19 KO’s) and WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (28-0, 20 KO’s) on the undercard of the Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah fight on February 9th at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, USA. Taylor, 34, has the recognizable name that Golden Boy wants for an opponent for Quillin, and Taylor has a #8 ranking by the World Boxing Organization.

This is a fight that Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy wants to make. Quillin looked really vulnerable in winning the WBO title against Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam last October. Although Quillin knocked N’Dam down six times, in between those knockdowns Quillin was getting out-boxed and outworked, and he didn’t look very special at all.

WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin was hoping to get a unification fight with Quillin, but Quillin and Golden Boy aren’t interested in that fight at all. It’s not surprising because Golovkin would likely knock Quillin into the next century if given the chance. That would be mismatch because Quillin is a pretty limited fighter and is going to need to be matched very carefully by Golden Boy if they want to keep him a champion for more than just one defense.

Taylor won his last three fights since coming off of a two year layoff from boxing from 2009 to 2011. Taylor has looked awful in all three fights, and nothing like his prime years of his career. Of all the middleweights, Quillin is probably the only one that Taylor has a small chance of beating but that doesn’t mean he will. Taylor has already been knocked down in his comeback and hurt, and Quillin, if nothing else, can punch. He’ll likely knock Taylor out cold at some point in this fight unless Taylor lands something big on Quillins’ chin.

Exclusive Interview by Geoffrey Ciani – I was recently afforded the opportunity to speak with the new WBO middleweight world champion Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin (28-0, 20 KOs) following his title-winning victory against Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam (27-1, 17 KOs) last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Quillin spoke about his performance, talked about his future, and gave his views on the current middleweight landscape and where he would like to go next. Here is a complete transcript from that interview.

GEOFFREY CIANI: Hello boxing fans. This is Geoff Ciani from East Side Boxing, and I am joined here today by the newly crowned WBO middleweight champion of the world, Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin. Pete, how does it feel to win your first world championship?

PETER QUILLIN: It feels great. It feels good to come a long way to have some kind of achievement to what my hard work has given me. But most importantly I got to know that there’s going to be some more fights in the future that’s going to allow me to show what my class is really about.

CIANI: Now Pete, during the fight, it appeared to me during the first three rounds that you had a little trouble with his rhythm and that you weren’t able to time him maybe as well as you would have liked to. Reflecting back, what was going through your mind during those first three rounds?
