Jeff Horn says he can beat Terence Crawford just like he did Pacquiao

Jeff Horn says he can beat Terence Crawford just like he did Pacquiao

If he could pull it off, it would almost certainly go down as a bigger upset than the one he scored in July of this year in dethroning defending WBO welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao – and Jeff Horn says he “knows” he can do it: beat pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford.

As per Australia’s Grantlee Kieza’s weekly boxing blog via The Courier Mail, Horn says he is “very keen to fight Terence Crawford.” The unbeaten Horn faces Britain’s Gary Corcoran on December 13 in Brisbane, but “The Hornet” is looking at a massive fight with unbeaten two-weight king Crawford; who has recently moved up to 147.

2017: A year of good fights, bad scoring

2017: A year of good fights, bad scoring

When the time comes and fight fans look back on 2017 as a whole, chances are pretty good they will feel the year was pretty good, overall. There are still some big fights to come in a year that has already seen its share of them, so things could get even better in terms of excellent action on display here in 2017.

However, one thing that has tarnished this year’s boxing calendar, is poor scoring by a number of judges. Of the great, good or big fights that have gone down this year – Jeff Horn-Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito-Carson Jones, Gennady Golovkin-Canelo Alvarez and Joseph Parker-Hughie Fury being standout examples, a number of them had one thing in common: hugely debatable, controversial score-cards.

Freddie Roach wants Pacquiao to avenge loss to Horn then retire

Great trainer Freddie Roach insists his most famous fighter, Manny Pacquiao, is not finished yet but concedes how the end is “close” for the all-time great. Speaking with Sky Sports, Roach revealed how he has received offers to face Terence Crawford “and some other guys,” but that the fight he wants Pac Man to take is the return with Jeff Horn.

As fans know, this rematch will not happen this year as was the original plan, with Pacquiao deciding he wants until next year to fully prepare for the return bout. Roach says this fight will likely take place next year (no word yet on whether or not Manny is still set on not going back to Australia, the scene of the first fight, back in July) and that he would like to see Pacquiao call it a day afterwards.

Pacquiao says again how Horn rematch will take place in The Philippines

As fight fans have probably read, the planned November 12 rematch between Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao is now off; due to Manny declaring he is “busy with government duties” and cannot fight the WBC welterweight champ again until next year. Team Horn now search a suitable Nov. 12 replacement foe.

However, Pac Man has again stated that when the rematch does take place, next year some time, it will NOT be in Australia, but in his homeland of the Philippines

Doubts over Horn-Pacquiao II as Pac Man wants to have the fight next year

Doubts over Horn-Pacquiao II as Pac Man wants to have the fight next year

Dean Lonergan, the promoter of WBO welterweight champ Jeff Horn, is mad as hell. For although we all read last week how a rematch between Horn and Manny Pacquiao had been agreed to for Brisbane, Australia in November, Pac Man has reportedly had a change of heart.

According to a story in The Daily Telegraph, Pacquiao wants to wait until next year for the rematch and this has prompted Lonergan to “seek a fight with someone else if Pacquiao isn’t available in November.”

Bob Arum says Horn-Pacquiao II is a “50-50 fight”

Going into the July 2 fight between superstar Manny Pacquiao and largely unheralded challenger Jeff Horn, practically everyone saw it as pretty much a straightforward win for Pac Man. And when promoter Bob Arum spoke about how unbeaten Horn had a decent shot at scoring the upset most fans put this down to the Top Rank boss simply doing his utmost to sell the fight.

Which Pound-for-Pound star will get revenge this year: Pacquiao or Gonzalez – or neither?

Which Pound-for-Pound star will get revenge this year: Pacquiao or Gonzalez – or neither?

There have been a number of big boxing upsets this year (and, if the betting wishes of the high rollers are to come true, there will be another one witnessed this Saturday night in Las Vegas) but to many, the respective losses Manny Pacquiao and Roman Gonzalez suffered rank as the biggest shocks of 2017.

As fans know, Gonzalez, when closing in on Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 ledger, fell foul of teak-tough Thai fighter Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (AKA Wisaksil Wangek) in March, the Nicaraguan losing his super-flyweight crown. While in July, Pacquiao lost his welterweight title to big Australian outsider Jeff Horn in another stunning decision.

November 12 pencilled in for Horn vs Pacquiao II

November 12 pencilled in for Horn vs Pacquiao II

The eagerly awaited return fight between welterweights Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao is “almost there,” according to Top Rank boss Bob Arum. Ever since the July 2 win scored by big underdog Horn, fight fans, and Pacquiao and Horn himself have wanted the rematch.

Horn wants it to prove his upset decision win, derided by many as a bad decision, was no fluke. Pac Man wants it because he wants revenge. The fans want it because the first fight was so good. Now Arum says all signs point to November 12, once again in Brisbane, Australia (Arum had earlier said it would simply be too hot to fight in Australia at this time of year, but there are plans for a canopy to be put in place which will protect both the ring and the first ten rows of seats from the blistering heat).
