Matthysse: I’ll fight Mayweather or Canelo

matthysse564WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse is really hoping that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia will step up to the plate on September 7th and agree to fight him. However, Matthysse is concerned that Garcia might not agree to the fight because he looked worried last Saturday night after Matthysse dispatched Lamont Peterson in three rounds at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

If Garcia decides it’s too dangerous a fight for him then Matthysse says he’s open to moving up in weight to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if either of them are interested in the fight.

Khan wants Matthysse fight; thinks he’s got the style to beat him

matthysse100(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) Amir Khan liked what he saw of Lucas Matthysse last night in his easy 3rd round TKO win over Lamont Peterson at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. However, Khan saw things in Matthysse’s fighting style that he feels would enable him to beat the Argentinian and he says he’d like to fight him.

Khan said “I’d love to fight Lucas Matthysse. My style would definitely suit Matthysse and I’d beat him. This wants me to stay at 140.”

Khan is moving up to 147 in his next fight, so it’s easy for him to say all this stuff now about wanting to fight Matthysse when it doesn’t look like it’s doable.

Also on the card is IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander defending title against #1 WBO Kell Brook.

Matthysse vs. Peterson possible for May 18th in Washington, DC

matthysse232By Bill Phanco: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is thinking of matching IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 16 KO’s) against WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) on May 18th in Washington, DC, according to RingTV.

It would be an all Golden Boy match-up, and an easy fight to make because of that. Peterson, 29, recently signed with Golden Boy in hopes of getting the opportunity to face their top light welterweights Amir Khan, Danny Garcia and Matthysse.

Garcia and Khan are obviously high on Peterson’s list due to their popularity, but a fight against Matthysse is still a very good one for Peterson.

Peterson vs. Matthysse a possibility for Alexander-Brook undercard on May 18th

Schaefer wants the Peterson-Matthysse fight to take place in Peterson’s home city of Washington, DC.

Peterson stopped Kendall Holt in the 8th round last night in Washington, DC. After the fight, Peterson said he’s interested in facing Matthysse, Amir Khan or Danny Garcia next. Golden Boy likely won’t let Peterson face Khan next because they want to keep Khan winning long enough to put him in with Danny Garcia for a rematch.

Lucas Matthysse: Lightning Escapes The Bottle

07(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Marc Livitz: Ah, the weekend that was. Gratitude in multitudes should graciously be passed along to Showtime for offering the boxing public such a memorable top to bottom highly pleasing telecast.

In stark contrast to their three letter cable network rival in sports, the job from the SHO group was one to be commended. The knowledgeable triumvirate of International Boxing Hall of Fame member Al Bernstein, Canuck import Mauro Ranallo, and Brooklyn’s own Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi have managed to serve a most delectable dish of the sweet science and its proper explanation to the viewing public.

Three fights were shown in primetime slots in addition to preliminary bouts being shown on a sister station. However, without any confusion to be had the evening almost wholly belonged to Lucas Matthysse. Of course, all due respect must be shown to the victorious Jermell Charlo and Jesus Soto Karass.

In the eyes of many, and not surprisingly in and of the opinion of those in the boxing know, the light welterweight division belongs to Mr. Juan Manuel Marquez. The giant wave of a foe conquered won’t soon meet its crest for “Dinamita”.

Lucas Matthysse, Jesus Soto Karass And Jermell Charlo Impress On Showtime

Matthyssee_Dallas02 Photos: Michael Bennett/SHOWTIME– WBC Interim Super Lightweight Champion Lucas Matthysse scored a one-punch knockout win over Mike Dallas, Jr., in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last night. The knockout came via a short counter right hand at 2:26 of the opening round. Matthysse advanced his record to 33 wins, two losses with an impressive 31 knockouts. The dangerous Argentine is now looking for the biggest names in the 140-pound division.

The triple header, presented by Golden Boy Promotions, will replay Tuesday, January 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME®.

In one of the evening’s co-features, Jesus Soto Karass won a majority decision over Selcuk Aydin in a 10-round super welterweight fight. Soto Karass simply outworked Aydin from the opening bell, continually pushing forward and controlling most of the rounds. The scores were 97-93 twice and 95-95. Soto Karass’ record improved to 27 wins, eight losses and three draws with 17 knockouts.

Matthysse destroys Dallas Jr.; Soto-Karass defeats Aydin

matthysse1By Bill Phanco: It took WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) most of the 1st round to adjust to the hand speed of Mike Dallas Jr. (19-3-1, 8 KO’s) tonight but once he did, he tagged him with a monstrous overhand right late in the round that knocked Dallas Jr. clean out, sending him down face first on the canvas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The referee immediately stopped the fight after realizing that Dallas Jr. was out cold and wasn’t moving a muscle. The official stoppage was at 2:26 of the round.

Dallas Jr. was jabbing well in the early part of the fight, and tying Matthysse up each time he could get in close to land his power punches. However, as the round wore on, Matthysse began to catch Dallas Jr. with hard left hooks to the head and big right hands. You could see with the power that Matthysse was throwing his shots that Dallas Jr. wasn’t going to last very long in this fight.

Matthysse’s power was pretty impressive in this fight because he wasn’t just punching big power with his left hand. He was also throwing with good power with his right as well, and there aren’t too many fighters at 140 that would have been able to last long tonight against him.
