Results: Eubank Jr. defeats Abraham

Super middleweight Chris Eubank Jr. (25-1, 19 KOs) did a job in beating 37-year-old former world champion “King” Arthur Abraham (46-6, 30 KOs) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in front of a large crowd at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Eubank Jr. used a lot of uppercuts and flurries to beat the German Abraham by the scores 118-110, 118-110, and 120-108. Eubank Jr. was showboating for much of the fight, showing little in the way of respect for Abraham, who couldn’t muster enough offense to make it a fight.

Carl Frampton-Lee Selby unification blockbuster eyed for Belfast this year – but both must win on Saturday in Vegas

Carl Frampton is just days away from a second war with Leo Santa Cruz, but the WBA featherweight king is already eyeing up his next fight. Frampton, who defeated Santa Cruz to take the featherweight belt in a classic fight last summer, believes he will triumph again in the return in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Frampton, who picked up the prestigious Fighter of The Year award from Ring Magazine for his 2016 achievements, believes he may even KO the tough Mexican warrior this time. And on the under-card on Saturday at The MGM, IBF featherweight ruler Lee Selby faces his mandatory challenger Jonathan Barrios, with a potentially massive unification fight between the two a strong possibility for later this year – assuming they both win of course.

Team Warrington hit back at team Selby

Team Warrington hit back at team Selby

Steve Wood, head of VIP Promotions and manager of WBC International featherweight champion Josh Warrington, has responded to recent claims made by boxer Lee Selby.

Selby, the IBF World featherweight champion, and his team issued a press release this week claiming Warrington was ‘running scared’ and had pulled out of a scheduled summer showdown. Wood, however, has refuted those accusations and insists the Welsh fighter has resorted to desperate measures to try to land himself a payday. “To be honest, we’re all a bit embarrassed by the actions of Lee and his team in putting out that press release. On the contrary, Josh Warrington would like to assure Lee that he isn’t unwanted; as it appears he is by the American promoter [Al Haymon] he ran to after leaving Matchroom.

Lee Selby to defend IBF featherweight title against Eric Hunter in either London or Cardiff

Lee Selby to defend IBF featherweight title against Eric Hunter in either London or Cardiff

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has just announced another big world title fight: Lee Selby, the reigning IBF featherweight champion, will defend against Philadelphia’s Eric Hunter in the UK this Spring. Hearn, talking to BBC Wales, said the fight will definitely take place in the UK, it is just a matter of the fight going ahead in either London, when the date would be April 9th, or Cardiff, when the likely date would be some time in May.

Either way, Selby-Hunter is a good fight, arguably the biggest test yet for the classy 29-year-old Welshman. Selby, 22-1(8) won the title with an 8th-round TD against Evgeny Gradovich in May of last year and he has retained the belt once, winning a 12-round UD over Fernando Montiel. The Montiel fight took place in Arizona but now “The Welsh Mayweather,” as Selby has been dubbed by some, gets ready to defend once again at home; or maybe in London.
