MIAMI (September 17, 2014) – A boxing rarity will happen September 29 when Antonio Tarver, Jr. makes his professional debut on the same card his father, 5-time world light heavyweight champion and 1996 U.S. Olympian Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver (30-6, 21 KOs), is headlining in a 10-round heavyweight bout against veteran Johnathon Banks (29-2-1, 19 KOs). “Gentlemen, come out fighting at the bell.” For years we’ve heard that or similar invitations made to two boxers, not two brawlers. When it’s the latter, the public is turned off and turns away from the sport. Ideally, brawling has no place in the sport; although, it’s always been there. In fact, some of boxing’s most popular and colorful boxers weren’t above fracturing a rule or ten. Guys like Harry Greb, Fritzie Zivic, Sandy Saddler, and Two Ton Tony Galento. The modern day list holds more than just a few. We won’t offend individuals by naming them. The truth is some of the best of our current crop of greats, such as Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Bernard Hopkins, and Andre Ward aren’t above cleverly using elbows, forearms, a glove behind the head pulling a man off balance, and the good old noggin. The difference is the men have many other skills to bring about a victory. Continue reading
NEW YORK CITY (December 5, 2013) – Unbeaten junior lightweight prospects Joel Diaz, Jr. (13-0, 11 KOs) and Wanzell Ellison (9-0-1, 5 KOs) headline “Big Apple Boxing,” presented by 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions, on Friday night, December 20 at Resorts World Casino NYC in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
“This is going to be an exciting night in boxing,” promoter Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson said. “The fighters on this card are highly motivated and I’m looking forward to watching their talent unfold in the ring. We’ll also have special performances from Prodigy of Mobb Deep, Tory Ave and Tony Yayo. You won’t want to miss this one.” Continue reading
By Marc Livitz at ringside in Corpus Christi, Texas, photo gallery by Adrian Hernandez – Juan Diaz scored a sixth round TKO victory over Hernando “Pipino” Cuevas, Jr. tonight at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Diaz (36(18)-4) had taken a respite of sorts from the ring. The Houston, TX boxer last fought in July of 2010 in a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez. He lost a sound unanimous decision and the result was a far cry from his initial meeting with Marquez in February of 2009.
Although Diaz was knocked out in the ninth round, their battle in front of Diaz’s home crowd in Houston garnered “Fight of the Year” Honors. In between his two meetings with “Dinamita” Marquez, “Baby Bull” Diaz went one up and one down with Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi, who many felt was robbed of a victory in their first meeting in Houston. Tonight, Diaz faced off with the son of former WBA welterweight champion Pipino Cuevas, Sr. Continue reading
(CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD.) – Gary Russell, Jr. (Capitol Heights, Md.) and his team, led by his father and trainer Gary Russell, Sr., are committed to their game plan for the undefeated featherweight’s career. Russell has recently been courted by 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions, but the 24-year-old has no plans to make changes to his team.
“Over the last few days, we’ve been getting a number of phone calls from 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions. They want us to sign with their camp. I don’t have anything against his team; but we are not interested…I’m not interested,” Russell said. “Like I’ve said before Team Russell is not signed to any promotions team. I have a manager, Al Haymon, and he is the only person I’m signed with.”
As boxing is a family affair in the Russell household, the 2008 Olympian and his team approach his career in the same manner.
“Growing up with all brothers, our father taught us a long time ago that loyalty is important. I feel the same way about my relationship with Al. We consider him a part of our boxing family. Al has been a big part of my career and things are going smooth. Continue reading

October 16, 2012 – Explosive puncher, Jorge “Machito” Maysonet, Jr. (9-0, 8 KO’s) is training very hard for his next fight on Friday, October 26, at the Roque Nido Stella Coliseum in Guayama, Puerto Rico.
His opponent will be one of the most evaded fighters in Puerto Rico.
