Lamont Peterson: Who cares what the media and fans say?

(Photo Credit: Amanda Kwok / SHOWTIME) IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (32-2-1, 16 KOs) is unconcerned that boxing fans see his fight tonight against #13 IBF fringe contender Edgar Santana (29-4, 20 KOs) as a sick mismatch at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Santana was recently beaten by Manuel Perez in 2012.

Peterson thinks it’s a great fight and he feels that Santana is going to make it an exciting and competitive match-up. Santana was picked out for Peterson by his adviser for some reason rather than having him fight a higher ranked, better known opponent.

It’s sort of perceived as a mismatch given that Peterson is facing a near bottom ranked opponent rather than someone with a reasonable chance of beating him. Peterson was beaten badly by Lucas Matthysse last year in a 3rd round TKO defeat. Continue reading

As you know the main event is Danny Garcia vs Rod Salka, which will be a 10-round Welterweight fight. The co-main event, Lamont Peterson vs Edgar Santana will be a 12-round for Peterson’s IBF Junior Welterweight World Championship.

The fight we’ll be talking about now is Daniel Jacobs vs Jarrod Fletcher. That will be a 12-rounder for the WBA Middleweight World Title. DOVER, Del. — The headline bout for Friday Night Fights on Nov. 22 for the NABA Light Welterweight Championship Title now features Edgar “El Chamaco” Santana, of Spanish Harlem, N.Y., against Michael “Cold Blood” Clark of Columbus, Ohio.
