A world heavyweight title shot next for Tony Bellew? Hearn says he could bring Parker or Wilder to the UK “without any shadow of a doubt”

Whatever he decides to do next, it has to be agreed how Tony Bellew, the fighter all of British boxing is talking about right now, has had some great career. Bellew shocked the odds in winning the WBC cruiserweight title against Ilunga Makabu last year, while last night, in the most incredible fight of 2017 so far, Bellew stunned the sport with his wild and crazy win over David Haye.

People will be talking about last night’s fight for some time, yet already fans are asking what move “Bomber” will make next. Retirement, on the back of his biggest win and payday, could be a tempting option for the 34 year-old, but it’s also possible – believe it or not – that Bellew could get a shot at one of the world heavyweight belts.

Tony Bellew scores amazing 11th round TKO over David Haye in wild, bizarre fight!

Wow! Tonight at a sold-out O2 in the heart of London, British boxing witnessed one hell of an amazing, even crazy fight. The result: Bellew TKO 11 Haye, doesn’t come anywhere near close to telling the full story.

Haye, who suffered a terrible injury to his right ankle (or Achilles; we must await a full explanation) in the 6th round, was basically a one-legged fighter from the 6th on – yet he refused to quit! Bellew blazed away, scoring a knockdown, the end seemingly not far away, but instead Haye gutted it up like never before in his career and the two went to war in incredible fashion.

Haye vs Bellew: David Haye talks and looks like a man ready for war

At the recent Haye-Bellew press conference in Liverpool, which was open to the public, something remarkable took place. We saw Haye emerge from it as the villain while Tony Bellew found himself slotted in to the role of the good guy – the wholesome family man who unlike Haye is in boxing for all the right reasons.

Now just think about that for a second. Tony ‘Bomber’ Bellew, a fighter who’s spent his entire professional career unleashing tirades of invective at his opponents in the lead up to fights, whose every second or third word is usually an expletive, a man infamous for bullying and intimidatory antics, suddenly this guy is being depicted as a poster boy for family values and proper etiquette.

Haye vs Bellew: Hearn allays Haye injury fears: “He will be in the ring on Saturday”

After all the hype, the ward of words and the entertaining press conferences, it would be a massive blow if Saturday’s David Haye-Tony Bellew fight got called off. Believe it or not, there is apparently a chance that this will actually be the case. A story broke this morning regarding Haye suffering an injured Achilles tendon.

Haye flew out to see his German doctor, Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt yesterday, to have his Achilles checked out. When this was revealed, a number of publications and web sites jumped on the story, suggesting Saturday’s fight was in jeopardy. And of course Haye has form; having pulled out of a few fights due to injury – sometimes at the eleventh hour.
