Danny "Swift" Garcia battles Samuel Vargas on November 12

Undefeated welterweight world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) will make his first appearance in his native Philadelphia since 2010 as he takes on Colombia’s Samuel Vargas (25-2-1, 13 KOs) in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on Spike Saturday, November 12 from Temple University’s Liacouras Center. The bout will be Garcia’s final hurdle before a planned massive showdown with unbeaten champion Keith “One Time” Thurman scheduled for the first quarter of 2017.

In keeping with his desire to give back to the community, Garcia is teaming up with Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization, to arrange a regional food drive, collecting most-needed items, such as tuna and vegetables. Fans are being encouraged to drop off canned goods at the Liacouras Center (1776 N Broad St) and the DSG Boxing Gym (3731 Jasper St). Additionally, $10 from each ticket sold will be donated and provide 20 meals per ticket for people in need. More information on these efforts and how you can get involved will be announced shortly.

Danny Garcia to fight Samuel Vargas on November 12, Thurman super-fight next year?

Danny Garcia to fight Samuel Vargas on November 12, Thurman super-fight next year?

Reigning WBC welterweight champ Danny Garcia’s next bout has been confirmed: he will face Canadian-based Colombian Samuel Vargas in Philadelphia on November 12. The fight will be a non-title affair. Garcia, 32-0(18) has been somewhat disappointing in his choice of opposition lately – with fights against the likes of Rod Salka, Paulie Malignaggi and now Vargas cluttering his CV. Fans are certain to be far from happy with the choice of Vargas, 25-2-1(13) in what will be “Swift’s” second and final fight of 2016.

The good news, though, is Garcia, if victorious next month (and he will win, unless we see a candidate for Upset of The Decade) will likely face WBA welterweight king Keith Thurman in a big unification showdown sometime in the first quarter of next year. This is the word according to reports anyway. But first comes the fight against 27-year-old Vargas, in what can only really be called a tune-up bout for Garcia, primed and peaking as he is at age 28.

WBC News: Mike Towell, Wilder, Garcia, More

By Mauricio Sulaiman: Only two days ago, tragedy struck our sport with the death of Mike Towell, who passed away in Scotland. We all mourn his death with deep feelings, and it makes all of us involved in boxing go back and continue to study and research, and to be proactive to implement measures to minimize the risks.

The WBC was founded in 1963 by the President of Mexico, Don Adolfo Lopez Mateos, who was a boxer himself in his youth and who found passion and inspiration in our great sport. He was often seen sitting in the crowd at fights, even during his years as President.

Andre Berto says Danny Garcia will be fighting John Molina Jr next, not him

Andre Berto is not too happy at the moment and when fight fans hear what it is that is ailing the former WBC welterweight ruler, chances are they will be far from ecstatic themselves. According to Berto, via his official twitter page, Danny Garcia, the current WBC 147-pound king he has been chasing, will instead make his next defence against John Molina Junior. Berto, who insists that at no time did he “out price” himself when attempting to negotiate a fight with Garcia, wishes Molina good luck, but he has accused Garcia of “ducking” him.

Sulaiman says Danny Garcia will defend WBC title in October, face mandatory Khan rematch after that

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman spoke with Sky Sports recently and he stated how WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia will defend his title in a rematch with Amir Khan next year. Sulaiman said that as Khan is currently injured (his hand, which underwent an operation recently) Garcia will make a voluntary defence this October before defending against Khan, the WBC no-1 contender, after that.

“Unfortunately, Amir Khan has an injury in his hand that required surgery so he’ll be out for the rest of the year,” Sulaiman said.

Get ready for Danny Garcia vs. Andre Berto

Get ready for Danny Garcia vs. Andre Berto

It’s not official yet, but welterweights Danny Garcia and Andre Berto are in talks for a possible September or October fight; so reports RingTV.com (although the man with all the news, Dan Rafael, wrote how this fight was a possibility a few days ago). Reportedly, the likely date is September 24th at The Barclays Centre in New York, with a later date in October also being looked at. But never mind the finer details – are fight fans happy with this match-up?

It’s by no means a bad fight, but shouldn’t Garcia – a superb fighter who looked as though he was at least three feet along the road to superstardom after his fine 2012/2013 wins over Amir Khan and Lucas Matthysse – be facing the elite of the elite? Okay, Garcia, 32-0(18) has not had that much experience as a welterweight (his biggest wins coming down at 140) but with the likes of Keith Thurman calling him out and with those recent reports suggesting “Swift” was in the running to face the soon to return Manny Pacquiao, it’s possible fans will fail to be too thrilled if the Berto fight is finalized and then announced.

Amir Khan “chasing” return fight with Danny Garcia, still no interest in Kell Brook

Amir Khan “chasing” return fight with Danny Garcia, still no interest in Kell Brook

Amir Khan, last seen losing his big and brave gamble of a 155-pound fight with Mexican star Saul Canelo Alvarez, is not sounding at all like a fighter who is thinking about retirement. Far from it, Khan is searching – or, to use his exact words, chasing – another big fight; a return meeting with WBC welterweight ruler Danny Garcia. Khan is currently the WBC number-one contender and he wants the fight.

Khan was of course stopped by Garcia back in 2012, inside four-rounds. Can Khan do any better in a rematch? If Khan gets his way, we will find out.

Danny Garcia “looking forward” to fighting Floyd Mayweather, convinced he would beat him

Danny Garcia open to fighting Amir Khan again, but warns Khan it would be a “dumb decision” to take the rematch

Danny Garcia open to fighting Amir Khan again, but warns Khan it would be a “dumb decision” to take the rematch

As fans know, the recently defeated Amir Khan, who was crushed after a game effort against middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez, is the number-one contender for the WBC welterweight title held by Danny Garcia. Khan, who has ruled out retirement, has expressed interest in taking a second fight with Garcia, who stopped him inside 4-rounds back in 2012. With his mandatory position, Khan perhaps looks at a revenge fight as a possible quick route back to the top. Yet a number of people, Garcia included, naturally, feel another nasty KO loss would be what Khan would get if he faced Garcia again.
