Burns vs. Vazquez
IBF World Lightweight Champion Miguel Vazquez has released a statement confirming that he was struck down by a viral infection and had to stop training for his fight against WBO World Champion Ricky Burns, that caused the fight originally scheduled for Saturday 16th March at Wembley Arena to be postponed.
Promoter Frank Warren announced yesterday that the show will now take place on Saturday 20th April with Burns v Vazquez and Nathan Cleverly’s WBO World Light-Heavyweight title defence against Robin Krasniqi joint-headlining the card.

Promoter Frank Warren’s show at Wembley Arena on Saturday 16th March has been postponed and will now take place on Saturday 20th April.
World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns’ opponent, Miguel Vazquez – the IBF World Champion – has been suffering from a severe viral infection caused by food poisoning. By Jeff Sorby: Contrary to the news that came out yesterday about IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez saying a fight between him and WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns isn’t a done deal for March 16th, Frank Warren Promotions, the promoter for Burns, is saying the fight is going to take place on that date.
East Side Boxing has obtained an a signed letter of acceptance from Vazquez’s promoter Juan Carlos Torres of Zanfer Promotions that confirms the agreement for the Burns-Vazquez fight on March 16th. The acceptance was signed on January 10th, 2013.
East Side Boxing also obtained an e-mail from Torres to Frank Warren Promotions matchmaker Dean Powell on January 10th that confirms the fight four days prior to Mr. Warren announcement of the fight in a press conference in London. Continue reading
By Michael Collins: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) believes he’s going to be in a real tough one on March 16th against IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3, 10 KO’s) at the Wembley Arena in London, England. Burns has the home advantage of sorts given that he’s from the UK while Vazquez is from Mexico, but he still expects it to be a tough fight.
Burns said to Sky Sports “It’s the toughest fight of my career with two world titles on the line. He’s not the world champion for nothing. When you look at his record, he’s only lost to two fighters at the top of their game. I know myself it’s a tough ask, but I’m going to be really bring it. He’s going to bring out the best in me.
