MRI confirms Melson’s Tear; Treatment set for tomorrow!

New York, NY (July 28, 2014) – An MRI confirmed that junior middleweight and West Point graduate Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson suffered a torn supraspinatus. Melson, 14-1-1 (4 KO’s), tore his supraspinatus, which is part of the rotator cuff, preparing for what would’ve been the biggest bout of his professional career against Glen Tapia at Madison Square Garden. Melson Injures Rotator Cuff; Tapia Fight Off!

New York, NY (July 17, 2014) – Junior Middleweight Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson has been forced to withdraw from his Saturday, July 26 bout against contender Glen Tapia.

Melson, who was in the best shape of his professional career and prepared in an extended training camp, believes he tore his left rotator cuff Tuesday during one of his final sparring sessions. A 2008 Olympic Alternate selection, the West Point grad gave up his spot after suffering the same injury. He’d also had his left rotator cuff operated on twice in the past, including in 2008 after tearing it. Continue reading

New York City (June 24, 2014) Top junior middleweight contenders will square off on the undercard of the “G4” boxing extravaganza set for SATURDAY, JULY 26 at The Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. “GLEN “Jersey Boy” TAPIA, favorite son of Passaic, New Jersey, will clash with BOYD “The Rainmaker” MELSON of Brooklyn, New York in an eight round battle.

Also added to the undercard is undefeated and all-action junior welterweight newcomer JULIAN “Hammer Hands” RODRIGUEZ of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey in a scheduled four rounder against an opponent to be announced. Continue reading

Broadway Boxing: Boyd Melson, Heather Hardy Victorious

New York, NY(2/12/14) – Earlier tonight, DiBella Entertainment hosted the last ever boxing event to take place at the historic Roseland Ballroom in mid-town Manhattan. The nine-bout card was the epitome of old-school New York boxing, and was as good of a sendoff as the ballroom could have asked for.

In the main event of the final boxing event ever at the famed Roseland Ballroom, Boyd Melson, 160, White Plains, NY, of “Team Fight to Walk”, outboxed Donald Ward, 155, Memphis, TN, to earn a majority decision victory on scores of 78-74, 79-73, and 76-76. Continue reading

Broadway Boxing “The Last Dance” Official Weights

New York, NY (2/11/14) – Earlier today, all of the fighters for the DiBella Entetainment Broadway Boxing card weighed-in ahead of tomorrow nights fights at Roseland Ballroom in NYC. Tomorrow night’s card will be the premiere installment of the 2014 Broadway Boxing series and the final boxing show ever to take place at the famed and historic Roseland Ballroom.

Below is the complete bout sheet for tomorrow night’s show. The card, entitled “The Last Dance”, has had such a positive response with New York boxing’s adoring fan base that DBE has had to open up more seats at the last minute to accommodate the flood of calls and requests coming in for tickets. General admission standing room only tickets, priced at $35, will now be available at the door tomorrow evening. Doors open at 6 p.m. ET, with the first bout scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Dibella Entertainment’s “The Last Dance” A Big Hit Last Minute Standing Room…

New York, NY (2/11/14) – Tomorrow evening with be a bittersweet night for Lou DiBella and his company DiBella Entertainment. The promotional company will host the premiere installment of the 2014 Broadway Boxing series with the final boxing show ever to take place at NYC’s famed and historic Roseland Ballroom. Having promoted a number of cards at the venue over the years and helping to grow the Broadway Boxing series into what it is today, the historic ballroom will be closing its doors in April after more than 50 years of operation at its current location. Ruiz Injured; Melson to face Ward February 12!

New York, NY (February 7, 2014) – tough Tennessean Donald “Bulldog” Ward will replace the injured Mike Ruiz as the opponent for Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson Wednesday, February 12 in New York City.

The Melson-Ruiz 154 pound showdown was heavily hyped in the Big Apple, with both men known for their warrior mentality and large fan bases, but a hand injury forced Ruiz out of the bout.

Eight years Melson’s junior, Ward’s professional record is 6-3 with 3 wins by knockout. He’s faced three highly-regarded unbeaten fighters and on September 7 2013, the Memphis native shocked once-beaten hometown favorite William Jackson over six rounds. Continue reading
