Bellew vs Miranda

Bellew stops Miranda in Nine – What next for the Bomber?

By Matt Amos – Last night Tony Bellew increased his standing in the 175 Pound Light Heavyweight division with a solid ninth round stoppage over erratic Columbian Edison Miranda. As predicted the “Bomber” needed to focus during the first four shared rounds but Miranda seemed too visibly tire as the fight progressed, frustrated by the long sharp jab and skillful body punches of the Liverpudlian. The Columbian had his moments with his powerful right hand but Bellew never seemed to be in trouble and his superior boxing skills ultimately ended the fight in the 9th when he displayed a nice variety of accurate punches, ending in a clinical left to the body which Miranda had no answer too as he refused to take any more punishment. Bellew TKOs Edison Miranda!

By Michael Collins: In a back and forth war, British light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (18-1, 12 KO’s) was able to wear down 31-year-old Edison Miranda (35-8, 30 KO’s) and stop him in the 9th round on Saturday night at the Alexandra Palace in London. Bellew, 29, put Miranda down on the canvas in the 9th round and Miranda opted to quit after he got back up.

Bellew hurt Miranda in the 9th with a nice left-right combination to the head. Bellew continued to pummel the badly hurt Miranda with huge power shots until Miranda hit the deck on one knee. He got back up at the count of six. However, the fight was then halted by the referee at 2:54 of the round. Continue reading

Bellew vs Miranda Boxing Odds

PUNTERS on Betfair are backing Tony Bellew to make short work of Edison Miranda when the pair meet at Alexandra Palace on Saturday. Coming off the back of an impressive win against Danny McIntosh in April, the 29-year-old is the big odds-on favourite at 1-4 to win the headline fight at the Betfair sponsored London Calling bill.

Colombia’s Miranda is a dangerous opponent who packs a hefty punch, but odds of 4-1 on the betting exchange suggest that the 31-year-old has it all to do if he’s to get one over on his Scouse rival.

Having knocked out his last opponent, Bellew is available at 20-21 to KO Miranda and can be backed at 11-5 to triumph by way of judges’ decision. Miranda is a 9-2 shot to win the bout by knockout, while he’s a 16-1 longshot for victory courtesy of the judges. Continue reading

PREVIEW – Bellew versus Miranda – Saturday 8th October

By Matt Amos: This Saturday night (8th September) will see the “Wavetree Bomber” Tony Bellew further enhance his credentials when he meets the tough, powerful former middleweight Contender Edison “Pantera” Miranda at Alexandra Palace in London for the WBC International Light Heavyweight Title.

Bellew, 17(11) – 1(0), is an exciting, slick 29 year old boxer who has already captured the British and Commonwealth titles. An articulate, likable family man with an accomplished domestic amateur career having won three National ABA Heavyweight Titles, he will look to increase his worldwide exposure when battling the well known rugged Colombian.

31 year old Miranda, 35(30) – 7(3) is a proven operator at top 10 level in the middle and super middleweight ranks and like Bellew attained considerable success at amateur level winning four national titles and reputedly 128 of 132 fights. He achieved his greatest professional triumphs in 2006/7 when stopping the granite chinned Howard Eastman and then defeating the previously unbeaten Allan Green. A controversial world title fight with Arthur Abraham followed in which after breaking the Armenian German’s jaw and having point deductions for headbutting he was subsequently outclassed by Abraham.
