Boxing Fans, Urbina Murder Update: Phoenix Police arrested two men in connection with the brutal murder of 17 year old aspiring 2016 Olympic boxing hopeful Alexis Urbina on Friday November 8. Formal charges against the two suspects were filed on Wednesday, 11/13. Urbina was found unconscious on the kitchen floor in his South Phoenix home on September 3 and transported to Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix where he passed two days later as a result of severe trauma to his head which caused his brain to swell three times its’ normal size. The charges against the pair of suspects at this time read: 1st degree murder, trafficking stolen property and second degree burglary. Continue reading

Sulem Urbina statement regarding the murder of her brother, Team USA amateur boxer, Alexis Urbina

Alexis Urbina - RIP picPHOENIX, ARIZONA, U.S.A. – On September 5, 2013, seventeen-year-old Alexis Urbina, a 2013 USA Boxing National Champion and USA National representative at 141 pounds, died from injuries sustained in an attack at his home. Authorities continue to investigate his case as a homicide. His twenty-three-year-old sister, Mexico’s amateur boxing standout, Sulem Urbina, would like to share the following statement:

Many of you know that my brother, Alexis Urbina, was found beaten last month in my family’s home, in Phoenix, Arizona. It has taken me some time to gather my thoughts, but I am ready to speak out about this tragedy. I would like to thank everyone who has supported my family in this time of crisis. Many friends and members in the boxing community have helped with fundraisers and made donations to cover funeral costs. Some brought over cooked meals. Thank you to all the media who covered this tragedy, and for continually asking the public to help find who may be responsible.
