Adrien Broner – The Real Problem

Adrien Broner - The Real Problem

If someone compiled a list of the most well known boxers in the world the name Adrien Broner would appear rather early. Adrien “The Problem” Broner was touted as the second coming PPV star based off his performances in the 130 and 135 pound divisions. And for a while a majority of the boxing world fell into a love-hate relationship with him.

After his loss to Marcos Maidana, Broner has relatively stayed on a low profile and held back on the public antics( most likely due to a changed lifestyle after getting married).

However in the ring, he faces some serious issues. After his bouts against the likes of Fernando Quintero and former WBA Welterweight Titlist Paulie Malignaggi, it showed that boxers who use angles and movement frustrate the relatively flat footed Broner.

Adrien Broner eager to fight Robert Guerrero next

Adrien Broner eager to fight Robert Guerrero next

Former three division world champion Adrien Broner was present for Robert Guerrero’s fight last Saturday night against Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-2-1, 21 KO’s), and Broner saw enough weakness in Guerrero’s game for him to want to fight him next.

Guerrero showed weakness in the Kamegai fight by absorbing a lot of punishment to the head and body, resulting in Guerrero suffering a swollen left eye that was nearly completely shut by the end of the fight. While Guerrero tried to make excuses afterwards about how he chose to go toe-to-toe with Kamegai, the fact remains that he didn’t and he ended up getting hit a lot.

“Hopefully, we can make that fight [with Guerrero] happen,” Broner said to Fighthype.com last Saturday night at the Guerrero-Kamegai fight.

Adrien Broner: Scapegoat Racist

YouTube video
Racism: Beliefs, actions, practices, and social/political systems that create a hierarchy of races deemed more superior or inferior to each other. Racism gives advantages to groups with power and privilege (white) and is manifested towards people of color who are in subordinated positions.

Adrien Broner was recently used as a scapegoat of racism in a time where racial insensitivity is a hot topic. This is due to the recent incident with Clippers owner, Donald Sterling and his hate towards black people, not wanting black people at his basketball games, and his history of racism. Although what Broner said this past Saturday night after his victory over Carlos Molina was racially and culturally insensitive, disrespectful, arrogant, lacked humility, and ignorant, I would not say that it was racist. A racist position would be someone who said something of someone from a different race with language and a tone of hate and power over another racial group. As a black man, Adrien Broner is not in a position of power, but more so in a position to disrespect an entire community as a result of his dominant performance over Carlos Molina (who is Mexican and Argentinian).

Adrien Broner: Future Pound-for-Pounder?

Adrien Broner: Future Pound-for-Pounder?

First of all, I need to make it abundantly clear that I despise the way that Adrien Broner conducts himself outside the ring, but I do think he’s a talented fighter… and many casual boxing observers seem to allow their hatred to cloud their judgement and underestimate his overall ability and potential.

I also feel that the Carlos Molina bout was arranged by the promoters to specifically showcase Broner’s talents, which was essentially a glorified sparring session and a confidence builder.

Anyway, after watching the Molina fight for the second time, I did see some improvement in Broner, though subtle, he does appear to be going in the right direction. Here are my thoughts…

Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: A Look Back at Mayweather vs Maidana, A Measurement of the ‘New’ Amir Khan, & a Look at the Same Old Adrien Broner!!!

Left-Hook Lounge Mailbag: A Look Back at Mayweather vs Maidana, A Measurement of the 'New' Amir Khan, & a Look at the Same Old Adrien Broner!!!

Greg H. (Bronx, NYC): Going into the Maidana fight I thought Floyd Mayweather was in for an easy night, but I know you felt it would be tough from the beginning. What were your thoughts about both of their performance? And do you think a rematch is warranted?

Vivek W. (ESB): From the moment this fight was signed, I felt we would get precisely the fight we saw at the end of the night. I was shocked at the odds when they were initially announced, and I was even more shocked to see that they ballooned to the point in which they did by fight night (12:1). I don’t claim to know boxing any better than the next man, but what I learned once again is that the countless hours of film study in the still of the night does make a difference when giving educated feedback. Mayweather has always performed with a certain level of genius; but my logic from day one was that there was no way a precision based puncher who throws one shot at a time could get a decisive victory over a fighter who throws 70 punches per round with power at the end of each one.

Adrien Broner, J’Leon Love Victorious On Mayweather/Maidana Undercard

In his debut in the 140-pound division, three-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner bounced back from the first loss of his career with a unanimous decision win (99-91, 98-92, 100-90) over Carlos Molina.

Broner (28-1, 22 KO), who was fighting for the first time since his surprising loss to Maidana last December, started slow and was hit by a crushing overhand right from the confident Molina in the second round. While locked up in the third, Broner wrestled and tossed Molina (17-2-1, 13 KOs) to the ground, earning a hard warning by referee Kenny Bayless.

Broner picked up the pace in the middle rounds and took control of the bout with an impressive inside fight game.

The Moment – Big Fight Preview: Mayweather’s mindset, Khan’s toughest clash and Broner getting back to basics

The Moment – Big Fight Preview: Mayweather’s mindset, Khan’s toughest clash and Broner getting back to basics

Probably three of the top ten draws in boxing right now, today’s event featuring Adrien Broner, Floyd Mayweather and Amir Khan is one to relish.

Granted, real boxing fans know that the headline clash between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana is about as one-sided a bout as ‘Money’ has been in for a long time. However, a chance to also witness Broner back to his spectacular best and Khan in a real 50/50 bout makes this a special card.

Also featuring will be some of Mayweather Promotions’ best prospects as well as another UK Olympic medalist that Golden Boy Promotions are hoping to turn into the next Amir Khan. With such a stacked show it can be hard to get your head around all that is on offer, so here is a breakdown of all the goings on involved in The Moment.
