Belmontes Out. Akaba in Against Cherry

Philadelphia, PA- Osumanu Akaba, of Ghana, who had a nine-fight knockout streak snapped in his most recent fight, steps in against Edner Cherry in a 10-round junior lightweight contest on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.

Akaba replaces Jerry Belmontes, of Corpus Christi, TX, who injured his right wrist in training last Thursday. Continue reading

Edner Cherry is not the only boxer frustrated with his career progress. Jerry Belmontes, who takes on Cherry in a 10-round lightweight fight on Saturday evening, Oct. 18, at the 2300 Arena here, knows the feeling.
The Cherry-Belmontes fight, as well as the 10-round heavyweight main event between Steve “USS” Cunningham of Philadelphia, and Natu “The Truth” Visinia, of Lakewood, CA, tops a seven-bout card at the 1,200-seat building at 2300 South Swanson Street. Naim Nelson to risk undefeated record against Belasco

This Saturday night at the Valley Forge Casino Resort, undefeated Jr. boxing Welterweight Naim “The Dream” Nelson (12-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia will take on Ryan Belasco (18-6-3, 3 KO’s) of Wilmington, DE in an 8-round bout for the UBF All America’s title that will serve as the co-feature bout to a championship night of boxing promoted by King;s Promotions and Peltz Boxing. Ed Derian, one of boxing’s best-known ring announcers, passed away Sept. 26 at the age of 77. Promoter J Russell Peltz, International Boxing Hall of Fame class of 2004, recalls his days with “this fine young gentleman.”
