Vanes Martirosyan Dedicates Win To Dan Goossen

World ranked junior middleweight contender VANES “The Nightmare” MARTIROSYAN entered the top echelon of his division on Saturday night with an outstanding 10-round unanimous decision over fellow contender WILLIE NELSON from the Foxwoods Resort Casino and telecast live on SHOWTIME.

Scores for Martirosyan, now 35-1-1 (21KO’s) were 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94 over Nelson who moved to 23-2-1 (13KO’s).

Changing the momentum of the fight in the second round with a big right hand and surviving a bad cut above his right eye suffered in the fourth, Martirosyan fought brilliantly over the second half of the fight. Continue reading

RIP Dan Goossen

Statement from the Goossen Family: “It is with overwhelming regret that we announce the passing of Dan Goossen, 64, from complications relating to liver cancer. The sudden news of his diagnosis was very much a private matter and his final days were spent surrounded by his family and closest friends. Sadness is difficult to escape as we grieve his passing, however we are filled with pride by the fact that Dan Goossen battled this aggressive illness with boundless strength and the last days of his life were fought and lived with unflinching bravery, pure love and grace beyond measure.”

Andre Dirrell Shines In Return, Campillo Upsets Williams Jr

A packed house at The Little Creek Casino in Shelton, Washington was treated to a huge night of action packed professional boxing broadcast on ESPN Friday Night Fights, presented by Corona Extra™ and promoted by Goossen Promotions.

In the main event of the evening, former world champion GABRIEL “El Chico Guapo” CAMPILLO upset undefeated light heavyweight contender THOMAS “Top Dog” WILLIAMS JR., earning a fifth round stoppage as the ringside physician called a halt to the bout prior to round six due to a bad cut over the left eye of Williams. 

With the win, Campillo of Madrid, Spain, will now be ranked the #2 contender by the International Boxing Federation and improved his record to 24-6-1 (10KO’s) while Washington D.C. native Williams turned to 17-1-0 (12KO’s). Continue reading
