HBO should really try to enforce and encourage fights between Top Rank and GBP.. as others have alluded to already… we will see what this leads to.. thus farm this has been a decent year for boxing and there are a few other good fights on the horizon in just coming months.. so we will see where this lands us by years end

Bye bye HBO boxing.. bye bye top rank.. both are going down the drain in the next few years.. if not by the end of this year tbh.. that being said, I really thin Broner should sign with SMS…. it would be a beneficially neutral promotion that could give him a neutral and diverse career.. instead of being stuck in the monopoly known as Golden Boy… but that being said if he does sign with GBP.. he can still fight the likes of Garcia, Matthyese, Malginaggi, Peterson, Khan, and others…. so it wouldn;t be the worst move.. if Brandon Rios was smart, he would leave Top Rank and join GBP or SMS

Swedish Boxing Fan

Well at least HBO mabey will have Bernard Hopkins next world title fight, but that is only becouse Hopkins is not bound to any channel and Hopkins mabey will only fight 1 or 2 times more before retireing and NO ONE in years have deserved a retirement more then him

GOOD!! this will give a chance to the smalltime promoters to get HBO dates.

Right Kornerman..most people do just continue to let megacorporation have it their way with sneaky over charges and program purchases that they dont actually want and yes most of you do tend to just sit back and let their favorite boxers get bullied by the same powers that be. But Maracho aint like most people.

maracho blah blah blah blah blah- who cares we just wanna watch great fights.

stupid loser

maracho – deep, you sure you are on the right board. This is where, in the name of boxing, we call each other names and debate the most trivial details about a fight, who is the best/worst and our perception of great fights/fighters. The one thing in common is the passion for boxing. You may have mistaken this for a Rush L or Bill M board.

HBO is already a promoter so cutting out the middle men could leave more money for the boxers. Moreover, less bureaucracy often means less corruption since the powers that be have less opportunity to pass the blame. Now of course a monopoly can and will be corrupt but in this situation the fans have to much voice and financial power. Thus, I say a high profile parliamentary administration could be worth a try.

Well I can’t cancel because HBO shows good movies. Plus I work for the phone company so I get 50% off my bill anyways

Posted March 18, 2013 10:55 pm

I’m cancelling MY HBO subscription right away. They should have demanded Golden Boy and Top Rank collaboration not cut ties with Golden Boy. Real businessmen deliver what the customer wants. HBO Head of Boxing is a certified IMBECILE. Making emotional moves because his SISSYFIED feelings got hurt. IF you can’t take the heat then get the F out the kitchen.

Well if it means all the hype for the overrated and annoying Broner stops then I’m all for it. Even Chavez Jr. has fought tougher people than Broner…

Exiled Yank

HBO has taken some blows lately. This will hurt them too.

stupid loser

HBO has always had 2 major flaws: 1.obviously biased commentators being a little to giddy for their money fighter. Not even attempting to remain neutral. 2. They do not show ring girls which is a major part of the sport.

Arum puts a lot of stops on great fights and that is why we can’t get certain fights. They don’t need to stop dealing with GBP they just need to be more critical of the fights that they do buy. It is annoying constantly seeing fighters in give me fights. This also goes for Arum also.

Golden Boy is running boxing these days, Showtime is now the leader HBO take a back seat. This is one reason the Mares Nonito fight didn’t happen, Golden Boy an Showtime offered more money for the fight but Arum an Nonito are with HBO.

HBO trying to flex their muscle and drop GBP and Haymon down a notch for their machinations. I for one hope they succeed. Don’t want these promoters and managers continuing to con the networks into doing their bidding. Plenty of talent outside GBP to keep things interesting on HBO and hopefully Schaefer and crew will pull their heads out of their asses and begin negotiating like grown-ups.

This has got to be facade by the satellite and cable services to get boxing fans to buy both networks. besides that Time Warner and CBS have many joint ventures and marketing schemes. They do their best to hide it though because they know the people hate mega-monopolies.

The Best!

Cannot be good business for HBO. Canelo and Mayweather gone……I see a lot of payc uts for HBO commentators like jack ass Max Kellerman, he better hope he has a nice contract signed already.

Whoever is running HBO Boxing will be fired in NO time. They’re so angry at Mayweather that they shoot THEMSELVES in the foot and drop one of the Fighters with the Highest ratings because he’s becoming too valuable. They should have smartened UP and offered Broner a Contract instead of just releasing him. Dummies. SO long to HBO Boxing!!!

Showtime has been catching an now passing HBO for awhile now, they are not to committed if they don’t keep Golden Boy an Mayweather. lt has something to do with a former Golden Boy employee now running boxing for Showtime.

No more Broner on HBO? Whaaa?

Bad move on HBO’s part. This promotes a wider gap for the top dogs to try & monopolize sections of the sport.

I agree with Joe. Plus Lampley & that guy with the big eyes are just horrid.

What a stupid and horrible move by HBO. Golden Boy has the deepest roster of fighters and to just abandon making fights with them is just plain stupid. Instead HBO wants a relationship with Top Rank who not only has a much thinner roster of fighters, but it has an aging 81 yr old man at its head who will not be in the business much longer. This a bad strategic business decision by HBO which comes down to the question of why on earth did HBO hire Ken Hershman in the first place?

Ever since Ken Hershman was hired HBO boxing has gone downhill. He needs to be replaced immediately. I never understood why they hired him in the 1st place. His record at Showtime was one of limited growth and continued status quo. He did not bring any great innovation or changes to Showtime during his tenure there and Showtime Boxing never grew, its just remained there in a sort of suspended animation. When he was at Showtime, Showtime boxing never could compete with HBO Boxing, and they constantly put on poor fights. But once Hershman left and Showtime hired a new Sports director they have leaped past HBO putting on good fights all year long. Their viewership has gone up and now they have Mayweather. This compared to HBO, since Hershman’s hiring, poor match-ups, bad deals, losing Mayweather, and now refusing to deal with Golden Boy fighters. Hershman has now backed HBO into a corner. Losing Mayweather and now Broner, whom they had a lot invested in already. I see them courting Andre Ward, but Ward does not bring in big numbers and is not a pay per view attraction, and not too exciting to watch either. All the great fights at 168 have already been done by Ward and done on Showtime. Hershman has been a complete and absolute failure who needs to be fired before he ruins HBO Boxing for the next decade.

I guess Broner and Canelo weren’t that good of a draw for Boxing Fans..

Posted March 18, 2013 2:30 pm

Awwww. Looks like HBO got their feelings hurt by Mayweather leaving and Arum probably pounced on the opportunity to bad talk Golden Boy and now they’re off HBO. You’re afraid that Showtime will out bid you for the Future GOAT so you throw in the towel??? What cowards!!

It would be a big mistake to sign with 50. That goes for any fighter
