Trout did NOT put a serious beatdown on Delvin Rodriguez and he is not going to put one on Canelo..There is certainly a chance he can outbox him but lets get real Trout is not some sort of KO puncher and most of his rep is off Cotto which is a BIG win but it would be bigger if he was not facing Miguel coming off a loss to FMJ…Guys hate Canelo so suddenly Trout is the most dangerous guy in boxing? He is a very good fighter by the looks of it but this is going to be a tough fight for him Canelo is a solid puncher and he is technically sound… AGAIN sleep on him if you will the result might be surprising..

Mad Scientist, just because some of us think Trout is gonna put a serious beat down on Canelo, doesn’t make us haters.Just because I describe Canelo as robotic with movement like Frankensteins monster, doesn’t mean it’s not true.I happen to think Alvarez could become a great champ given time, but right now he’s a work in progress, with a good arsenal, but with serious flaws. So far he’s been matched against very overmatched opponents, now suddenly he wants Floyd. This is what hacks fans off.Trout will be the first measuring stick of Canelo’s worth.I think this fight is about 2 years too soon for Canelo. It seems like GBP are keen to cash out with him.Canelo is just too easy to hit,and I just see Trout picking him off all night, with Canelo getting frustrated mid rounds and exhausted and bloodied in the later rounds.I could be completely wrong.

The Mad Scientist

No doubt, Trout just might be able to pull off a win against Canelo but no way he ko’s Alvarez or put a serious ass beating on him like some of the haters would hope or like to think..

“Golden Boy said NO to Mayweather”? i could’ve sworn that Mayweather rejected the guaranteed matchup in September should Canelo defeat Trout(?). anyway, Martinez may be elusive but Mayweather is not so much at 154lbs. this is where his grappling and counterpunching skills have come in handy. in either case, i favor both Martinez and Mayweather in matchups v. Alvarez but like a true fight-fan, demand to actually see it happen in a Boxing ring.

te tumbo – Problem is Trout doesn’t stand still like Lopez, Mosley or all the other walking punching bags Canelo has fought…that’s why they didn’t wanna fight Martinez, ’cause Canelo NEEDS a fighter who stands still and allows themselves to be hit…another reason Golden Boy said NO to Mayweather…he’s too elusive. Same with Chavez, he needs someone who’s willing to bang it out, what happened when he was matched with “a mover”?? He lost 11.5 rounds, STRAIGHT. Canelo CAN surely win, but we don’t know if he will ’cause so far his opponents were hand picked for him to win and look good.

Trout by TKO.Easy nights work against the slayer of Borrowers and shopworn Hobbits….if anyone thinks Trout doesn’t have the firepower to keep Ginger Frankensteins Monster off him, you are sadly mistaken, Trout will either stop The Copper Robot on cuts or spark the stiff out cold…

it’s a good matchup and the winner will be avoided no doubt, except by fighters in higher wt. divisions

Canelo will be “exposed” as not being the dominant force at 154lbs if Trout wins. combined “Ws” v. Cotto and Canelo will establish Trout as that fighter. that is, if you doN’T consider Canelo a “hype job”. otherwise, a Trout win will prove nothing(?) to some posters on this thread. however, i just don’t see Trout being able to discourage Canelo over 12 rounds during which i anticipate that Canelo will repeatedly test Trout’s chin and gut. he does it well and i think it’s all that’s necessary to defeat Trout.

Alvarez was game for a Williams or Kirkland type, Trout in a unification match should silence the reasonable critics its a good fight… Austin is a big Jr MW and he can box, I lean towards Alvarez but I think he is going to have to take some counters to ultimately get the job done..

who has canelo beaten that everybody says he is the next big thing?? i hope this hypejob gets exposed

te tumbo, no question Alvarez is obviously willing and desires to fight the top of the division. Trout will be a great test to gauge how he is likely to do moving forward.

Btw, there can no longer be ANY doubt that Team Alvarez is making the logical moves to claim 154lb supremacy. they challenged Williams, Kirkland, Cotto, Mayweather, and now Trout. Canelo was not to blame for any of these matchups falling through and deserves full credit for confirming the mini-showdown v. Trout. nothing soft or lame about Canelo’s game and he’s willing to prove it in a Boxing ring.

“Funny how you call Cotto a ‘undersized ring-worn gatekeeper’, yet you were ALL for Canelo fighting him” ABSOLUTELY. i wanted nothing more than for Canelo to be the one to pound Cotto into official gatekeeper status. Trout plucked Cotto out of Canelo’s basket and will now collect the beating meant for Cotto. i don’t know what Trout’s boosters are so excited about(?). believe me, Canelo is supPosed to defeat Trout and in lieu of a Mayweather, Kirkland, or Martinez, he’s become the worthiest of unproven contenders for Canelo to bolster his own claim to 154lb supremacy. a Trout win will be nothing less than an upset.

This seems to go outside the norm of boxing today, matching up a top hyped prospect with a “potential” dangerous challenge. So kudos to GBP for willing to make this fight for the fans. I can’t wait to see if Canelo can live up to the hype or if the Trout win over Cotto means anything. Can’t wait to see this fight.

Canelo could barely impress vs 43 year old tiny Mosely.. Mosely was tagging Canelo at will and backing him up.. I think he will have his hands full fighting a guy his true size..

The Mad Scientist – NO WAY Canelo fights Martinez if he gets passed Trout….NO WAY!! Canelo’s already said “we wanted a fight with Martinez, but we figured his style wouldn’t be ideal for my style”…in other words, “I won’t look good fighting Martinez, so I won’t fight him”. C’mon! Martinez wouldn’t let Canelo rain down punches like he usually does, Martinez would box circles around Canelo.

te tumbo – Funny how you call Cotto a “undersized ring-worn gatekeeper”, yet you were ALL for Canelo fighting him, even after he lost to Trout….weakness! This IS Canleo’s FIRST true 154lb foe. Should be interesting.

Finally, this fraud alvarez is going to fight a fresh “potential” fighter — as compared to the old over-the-hill or “c” rated fighters. Trout wins easily.

“This is the first time his fighting a legitimate 154lbs champion” and precisely what makes Trout so much more legit at 154lbs? this sounds like the ignorant pap that had Lara at the pinnacle of 154lb contention . . . until he fell flat v. fellow contender Vanes. Trout is a steppingstone for which Canelo has been criticized before for fighting and his predictable win v. a ringworn, undersized, 154lb gatekeeper like Cotto doesn’t make Trout particularly “legitimate”. however, until the likes of Martinez steps up or down, Canelo might as well proceed to unify and claim 154lbs for himself. Trout is simply the first step towards that goal . . . unless Canelo is robbed by notoriously shady American reffing and scorecards.

Interesting fight choice 4 Canelo? A Mayweather fight was all but a done deal, a lose here could b very costly. Gd on Canelo 4 taking this fight. This fight is any1s, Canelo is use 2 being the bigger guy this will test him…

This is a good fight. Looking at Zilla’s point; I won’t buy a PPV BECAUSE I also love the sport. Put on a great card and I will pay but I ain’t gonna out my hard earned cash in the promotors pockets if the best fighters aren’t gonna take on the high level competition. Where would boxing be without Frazier v Ali, Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran all facing each other? The best guys in divisions need to fight each other in order for Champions to become legends.

Trout with the easy win. Canelos only chance is getting a gift decision.

If Canelo can beat Trout in impressive fashion I say he should fight Sergio Martinez next in September..big wins for Canelo against Trout and Martinez in 2013 will turn him into the sport’s next superstar IMO but it remains to be seen..anyway, I got Canelo beating down Trout during the later rounds on their bout to secure himself a UD win.

LOL whats won with canelos head ..? And Largothetic there was nutting narrow about austins win over cotto ….

The reason this fight is so compelling is that Trout is young, in his prime, undefeted, and bigger than Canelo. If Canelo wins, he’ll be THE man at 154. And that includes Floyd.

I watched the Trout/Cotto fight & I fail to see what was so impressive about narowly beating a Cotto on his last legs…Canelo is young & vibrant & has good skills, he’ll win this one without major difficulty.

Good match up props to both fighters. How great would boxing be if the best always fought the best. The tops guys never want to fight the best competition. We are the ones to blame for paying for the pay per view fights, I know Mayweather could fight stiffer competition on May 4 yet I will still order the fight just for the love of the Sport…

pressure is on Canelo. he’s supPosed to prevail in this matchup, which won’t necessarily elevate his status among believers or doubters. although, it will re-bolster his “dibs” on Mayweather that he appears desperate to enforce. anyway, Trout’s weakness is Canelo’s strength and Alvarez will turn this into a grueling 12-round bout that should compel Trout to wilt by the 7/th/8th resulting in a somewhat routine “W” for Canelo. anything less would be a notable upset and cred for Trout whose credibility is being stretched to the utmost to contrive any degree of suspense for this bout. IMO, a steppingstone for Canelo who should be targeting the likes of Martinez instead. now THAT is a risky and dangerous matchup for which i favor Martinez.

I’m glad this fight wasn’t canceled. I heard that Canelo had pulled out of the Mayweather PPV and figured the fight was off. This should be a good fight!

Finally a great fight. Kudos to both guys and their management for stepping up to the plate. Canelo has home edge but Trout can overcome this and win.
