Another over-hyped amateur a la Rigondeaux in the making. At least, being an Asian, he probably will not thrash talk.

no clue

this TOOL got most of his notable wins via blatant scorecards rigging.. his style is run, run, run.. push push.. foul.. push.. rush forward. push opponent down.. throw a couple of pitty pat taps … he is all hype no substance and his style is all wrong for pros… he will get messed up big time first time he faces a live contender

You do realise that many top pro fighters (both historically and currently) were Olympic medalists, right?
Though admittedly, this guy did have a reputation for trying to steal decisions rather than fight out a decisive win. Very Sven Ottke-like, I guess.

Yeah, people have a very myopic view of these things. All you need is one star from China and Top Rank will be making more money than they’ve seen from any fighter. I’m not saying Shi Ming Zhou will be that star, but it’s a start.
I don’t like Top Rank in general, but I’m all for getting these Chinese amateurs into the pro ranks. Shi Ming is probably too old (especially in the light divisions) to last for long, but it could inspire others to follow suit.
Actually, I thought (obviously wrongly) China had the Cuba mentallity and that their fighters had to stay amateur (though they have had female champs).

“Arum’s a shrewd business man. There’s tremendous potential for boxing in China. ” This is a fact, Ned. Being a national hero in China means big business for the person who knows how to exploit a boxer. Bob Arum is that man. As for Shiming himself, you guys don’t know what you’re talking about when you say “fighting at a weight that no one cares about” or “Chinese pro boxer don’t last.” Bob Arum has the promoting skill and savvy to make Shiming “last,” at a weight that the most populated country in the world will admire. BTW, irishny, if you think Shiming fights at a weight that “no one cares about” you’re no boxing fan. Just a wannabe.

When all said and done, Zou Shiming will not last as a pro-fighter his martial-arts will not help him as a pro-boxer Chinese pro-boxer don’t last.

Arum’s a shrewd business man. There’s tremendous potential for boxing in China. Until now the Chinese have focused on ancient martial arts, but that could easily be widened with an emphasis on boxing. Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines have produced some great fighters, so we may see a Chinese champion within the next decade.
