Nobody in 122 can beat this guy Donaire. He is versatile, powerful & with perfect timing all the time. The reason he is not scared of fighting anyone.

Posted January 2, 2013 12:13 am

“Donaire and Top Rank won’t get within 500 miles of Rigo.” Rigo fights for Top Rank as well you muppet!

Posted December 20, 2012 11:09 am

Santiago you DON”T really know the politics of boxing…You put the onus on Donarie because you favor him Mares which is fine…. But the GRIM reality is that Top Rank and Golden Boy don’t work together and that is BEYOND Donaires control… He called out Mares in the ring and no one thinks he is scared of this freeswinging, mid level power, pressure fighter (Mares)…. Why is Mares NOT making the fight?? Because he does not run Golden Boy and he is subject to the same promotional influences as all other fighters…. Its not as easy as “Get me Mares” or “Get me Donaire” until these companies begin to work together ALOT of matchups won’t get made…

Nonito is right his style of fighting bums in his division allows him to knockout those bums, has Nonito fought Agbeko, Anselmo Moreno none of those guys Nonito fought last year are on the level of guys Mares fought an beat.

Agreed! Donaire is too strong and too sharp of a puncher/counterpuncher for any of those guys. Would love to see Donaire-Marquez…FOY written all over that one.

Peej I’m glad you came out of the closet. It’s about time.

No one in Donaire’s weight range can beat him except Marquez and Broner. Everyone else will get SPANKED including Gamboa, Mares, and Russell Jr. Rigo will take a spanking TOO. Rigo has dynamite in ONE hand but Donaire has it in BOTH. One mistake and its GOOD night. Darchinyan, Montiel, Nishioka, and Arce ALL agree with ME on that!

Posted December 19, 2012 12:14 am

Don’t listen to Fight Aficionado. He likes to support the LOSER all the way up until they LOSE. And then he’ll jump ship and support another LOSER. Watch ME and learn how to support a WINNER.

Fight Aficionado

Titotopia you can split hairs all you want. Rigo would beat Donaire because he’s too skilled. Donaire and Top Rank won’t get within 500 miles of Rigo. You can denigrade Rigo all you want talking up one knockdown but it changes nothing about the fact Donaire’s ducking him. Because if that fight happened Rigo wins.

Posted December 18, 2012 8:14 pm

Rigo may not bring any money but out of the last 4 or 5 fights after Montiel who has brought Donaire money? Not a single fighter, well maybe Arce but with the way the crowd looked that isn’t true.

Posted December 18, 2012 8:11 pm

hecdog – I don’t believe it until I see it…and so far, Rigo has looked LESS than stellar in beating a bunch of nobodies….which he was dropped by Cordoba in a snoozer. Those guys that took Rigo the distance wouldn’t make it out of the 4th round against someone like Donaire. Rigo’s getting SMOKED like a bunt.

Posted December 18, 2012 7:11 pm

Santiago – You head what Donaire had to save after he stomped Arce right?? If you did, he CLEARLY said he wanted Mares next….we all wanna see that. But, boxing is run by promoters egos, and if Arum says no, well, it’s NO! But you can’t fault Donaire, he wants it. I see Rigo being Donaire’s next opponent….he’s with Top Rank. So, guess Donaire can X Rigo out of the equation soon, then Mares can get some too!

Posted December 18, 2012 7:07 pm

If the fight with Mares is a no go, then so what is your conclusion SREDMOND?
There are no more arguments left!
If Donaire claims he is the best in 122, then he has to take the other and only meaningful fight (easy fight, the other is just a newbee)

Posted December 18, 2012 7:01 pm

Gamboa would be SPANKED by Donaire as I SAID years ago. Nothing has changed except the FACT that he may get spanked even worse than before.

Posted December 18, 2012 6:59 pm

Nishioka had NOT lost in something like 8 years so how was he this washed up fighter?? explain that one?

Posted December 18, 2012 6:56 pm

Rigo, brings very little money, he is NOT a household name.. He only had 11 fights! If Donaire was chasing another guy with 11 bouts around the sport he would be crucified… It appears Rigo is going to get it sooner than later so you should be happy, but I hope you are generous in your praise of Donaire when he stomps this newbie quick, fast and in a hurry.

Posted December 18, 2012 6:48 pm

Donaire needs to stop fighting washed up former champs and fight Rigondeaux, Gamboa, Mares, or somebody who matters. I like Nonito but have lost a great amount of respect for him because he refuses to take on real fighters. If you claim to be the best than prove it and stop fighting guys like Arce, Montiel, Nishioka. I think Donaire was exposed in many ways against Jeffrey Mathebula and has been even more afraid to step up and fight an elite fighter. I feel that Rigondeaux and Gamboa would easily beat Donaire, as for Mares it depends on how many low blows Abner throws (dirty ass fighter).

Posted December 18, 2012 6:48 pm

… and remember Rigondeaux was not just an amateur, but he was the best of his generation and many think that he was the best amateur ever (for a reason!!). For years he was not only beating the top guys, but he was a very special speciment up there including among his acolates the 2 two time olimpic championship …

Remember there is a reason Donaire didn’t want to talk Rigondeaux until there was nothing else to talk about … He only talked about Rigondeaux when directly asked …
… even now he wants desesperately Mares FIRST ??? … again for a reason

Many of the world’s top boxers have Olympic gold medals. They include Andre Ward, Oscar de la Hoya, Vladimir Klitschko, Muhammed Ali, Yuriorkis Gamboa and Guillermo Rigondeaux. Doing well as an amateur at the Olympics is more likely than not, a great determinant of one’s future success as a pro.

Posted December 18, 2012 6:13 pm

Proud African – Once again. Amateur records mean SQUAT in the pros! I can run 8 miles on flat land, that doesn’t mean I can run 8 miles up the side of a mountain.

Posted December 18, 2012 6:05 pm

Fight Aficionado – Didn’t know we were debating whether he lost or not, well, actually we were NOT. But you said “I don’t think anyone’s putting Rigo on the deck. He’s too crafty and polished”, guess you know now! So, he’s not that crafty or polished eh!

Posted December 18, 2012 5:59 pm

Santiago, his amateur experience does NOT transfer to the pros anymore than we add Lebrons HS stats to his NBA resume…Smacking down Rico Ramos is not fooling me into thinking this guy is on par with Donaire, who has been accomplishing a TON in the PRO ranks…. Rigo,s country of origin and hardluck story do not give him the upper hand on Donaire

Posted December 18, 2012 5:46 pm

Proud African

Not all all. El Chacal has had far more fights in his life than Donaire. He was screwed by the Cuban political system. The only way to know who the victor will be is for the fighters to meet in the ring. Rigondeaux will emerge victorious.

Posted December 18, 2012 5:29 pm

I’m already saying what about Mares. I could care less about Rigo other than the fact he is better than the fighters Donaire has fought his last 4 or 5 fights. I want to see him fight Mares, that is mainly the fight that I want to see. Yes they both fight for dueling promoters but this is not a huge money fight so money should not get in the way like the way it did with the last major fight that never happened

Posted December 18, 2012 5:27 pm

hecdog – “experience as an amateur and that goes a long way in the professional ranks”, how do you figure? Rigo is INEXPERIENCED! Period. The guy hasn’t fought ANYONE in the pros and beating someone with pitty pat punches in the ams doesn’t count. What happened to Kelson Pinto who beat Cotto in the ams, twice? Cotto murked him. Don’t be fooled by amateur records, they mean SQUAT in the pros.

Posted December 18, 2012 5:25 pm

Nonito; we just ask you to fight Mares and Rigo in 2013, nothing more

Posted December 18, 2012 5:06 pm

To SREDMOND and the others:
Rigondeaux is not only the WBA world champion, but has more rounds on his legs that any other fighter out there, beleieve it or not he is the most accomplished fighter of his division. That is why he was able to be champ within 10 fights, he could be unified champion with 12 …

Stop hyping him up like you did to Pac.

Yes, but Manny Pacquiao has a better pedigree than Marquez. We all know what happened. Anything can happen in boxing.

Posted December 18, 2012 4:04 pm

SREDMOND – Nonito lost his 2nd pro fight, that was March of 2001. March of 2013 will be 12 years since he’s lost….he’s essentially, undefeated.

Posted December 18, 2012 3:09 pm

Donaire has faced MORE and better comp than this neophyte who is more Olympic myth than proven commodity… I cannot recall this much hype off of a guy who has 11 fights in YEARS….Donaire has gone undefeated for something like 8 years, he lost early in his career figured out who he was and then proceeded to tear thru the competition….Smashing Vic heralded his arrival, and since then they have all fallen one after the other… Its shameful to downplay a 4 weight Champion and P4P fighter in lieu of a guy with under 15 professional fights…..

Posted December 18, 2012 2:56 pm

I’m a fan of Abner Mares…I truly am! My buddy is a HUGE Mares fan as well, but I’m a BOXING fan first, and I’m telling you, as much as I’d love for Mares to be the victor in a bout with Donaire…I just do NOT see it happening. Mares gets far too wild and sloppy for someone who wants to share a ring with Donaire. If this fight gets made (*fingers crossed), Donaire is going to stop Mares.

Posted December 18, 2012 2:41 pm

Anonymous – Did you not watch the Donaire vs Arce fight? if you did, you should’ve/must’ve watched Donaire’s post fight interview….well, I’ll tell you again, Merchant asked Donaire who he’d like to fight, Rigo or Mares…Donaire said, “Mares, he’s been calling me out”. There you go! Donaire WANTS Mares….but again, as stupid and silly (and shameful) as it may be, Arums has the ultimate say. But I want to see it, just as much as everyone else does.

Posted December 18, 2012 2:37 pm

i think donaire going to know about rigo body shots he going to try to take that away from him by using his footwork and moving but i do think rigo can hurt donaire to the body tho if he can get to it enough

Posted December 18, 2012 2:14 pm

yeah donaire never fought nobody like rigo but rigo never fought nobody like donaire either that why it would be a good match up rigo got stun by a left hook before and donaire left hook is his best punch it going to be a chess match whoever makes a mistake going to pay the price whoever think the fastest before the other do going to win the fight they both thinking fighters i see donaire being a lil more agressive then rigo and doing a lil more by taking the lead rigo can have defense but he got to let them hands go if he fight donaire

Posted December 18, 2012 2:10 pm

i think donaire can hurt mares or atleast get his respect for just coming in mares is tough with a solid chin but anybody can get hurt or knock out u see what happen to pacquiao donaire can catch mares with a punch he dnt see coming if donaire just time him right but i dnt think mares going to just rush in like he moreno i think mares going to try to use fenits on donaire to get in and a jab if they fight i got to favor donaire to win i think donaire speed and timing and power going to make it hard for abner

Posted December 18, 2012 1:58 pm

Titopa, Mares has been calling out Donaire, but I don’t see him jumping to sign the fight? Bet is on!

Sredmond, Roberto Marroquin is a very good fighter. He had never been knocked down until he met El Chacal. El Chacal has as much power as Donaire. He is a better counter puncher and his body shots will fell Donaire. Adrien Broner for sure, if he stays focused and disciplned will become a multi-weight champion.

Posted December 18, 2012 1:12 pm

Proud African, HOW can you be assured about ANYTHING regarding Rigo at the pro level he has 11 or 12 contests?? By your reasoning Adrien Broner and Gary Russell belong in the HOF.. Rigos skills looked good against a SMALL sample size and none of his opposition was incredible… Ramos was a one or two fight Champion…. Donaire has belts in 4 divisions despite what the naysayers will spout that means ALOT…. And crushing the version of Darchinyan he did and damn near killing Montiel spells doom for Rigo…

Posted December 18, 2012 1:02 pm

Proud African

We’ll know after the fight.

Posted December 18, 2012 12:41 pm

Proud African – Rigo is going to get chin checked and then he’ll go on full blown survival mode. Donaire is going to knock him out. Rigo is inexperienced in the pros and Donaire is the BEST pro at 122lbs. Donaire will need to move up to 126-130 to find a challenge.

Posted December 18, 2012 12:28 pm

SREDMOND – Agreed. It’s a shame that boxing has turned into a battle of promoters and their egos…but it’s just the way it is. If it were up to Donaire, he’d fight Mares next, just like he said in his post fight interview….and I have no doubt that Donaire will smash Mares. But like you said, Rigo is with Top Rank and I believe he’ll be the first of the two to get a taste of Donaire’s dominance.

Posted December 18, 2012 12:26 pm

Proud African

I believe Rigondeaux can defeat both Mares and Donaire. Why? Because Rigondeaux has a much better defense and power than anyone Donaire has faced. One of Donaire’s weakness is the body. None of his opponents hardly goes to the body. Donaire said his last opponent hurt him by going to the body. Rigondeaux is a body specialist. He will knock out Donaire by focusing on his body. Hopefully, we will see this fight.

Posted December 18, 2012 11:42 am

Rigo, is gonna get blown out fighting Donaire and then guys will start saying “But what about Mares” and this will continue… Donaire is being punished for dominance, guys love to pretend he is this HUGE fighter when the reality is that even Arce came in the ring fight night 5 pounds heavier… Face facts, we are in the midst of a special career and Donaires biggest issue is going to be finding guys to fight…. Mares being a GoldenBoy boxers precludes a matchup, fact is these promotional entities are DEAD SET against working together no matter what the stakes (Mayweather-Pac) could not even be made…. Rigo is going to likely get it next and its NOT going to be pretty…

Posted December 18, 2012 10:50 am

Really revealing interview, he seems frustrated. I hope he influences more fighters to fight more frequently, this one or two fight per year crap is tired and surely doesn’t help their conditioning. I’ll be happy the day Arum moves on, wont be any time soon though. It takes real talent to learn from imitation …

Posted December 18, 2012 8:07 am

Rigo will take a spanking the night that he faces Donaire. There’s no IFS, ANDS, or BUTS about it except IF Rigo tries to exchange he’ll get stopped AND he’ll have to go to the Hospital.

Posted December 18, 2012 6:08 am

Finally he started talking about Rigo, as he doesn’t have another alternative to talk about, but never talking about now or next, but only as just as a kind of alternative if another will not step up. He knows the fight with Mares is difficult to make, then why not a shot at the WBA title, Guillermo is available right now … He doesn’t want to fight Rigo!

Posted December 18, 2012 5:00 am

Donaire will KO rigo he has weak chin, Mares much tougher fight it better happen.

Donaire will then school Rigo in a one-sided a** whoopin’ that will have his haters saying “Well Rigo wasn’t experienced enough, Donaire should move up in weight” – Titotopia rest assured there’s not one guy who would say Rigo was too green. Problem is your claims won’t be tested because Donaire will never fight Rigo. He doesn’t have to move up in weight because there’s plenty of good comp right where he’s at. Why doesn’t he step up to the best in his own division? The cherrypicking must stop.

Top Rank is doing the same thing they did with Pacquiao. Fight old names and everyone thinks you’re HOF and ATG.

Yet, the same kind of fights Donaire wanted because of his inexperience is the same treatment he’s pulling on Rigo.

Donaire does not avoid anyone hell as a kid he took on undefeated Vic who was a monster at that time. Like he said I been asking my team for 3 years to get these fights and thy have not made them. Remember thus s Bob Arum were talking about and his goal is to make the fighter as much money as possible so he is careful matching.

I think Donaire can take out ‘low blow’ Mares. Rigondeauz and Donaire have the power to take one another out. But I will root for Rigondeaux. Rigondeaux can take out Mares. Donaire is very wary of Rigondeaux. All three are very good fighters, although Mares can be a dirty fighter.

Mares Donaire is a fight fans dream, it will be a war 100% from both warriors, Rigo is old and is showing clinks in his armor, his chin has been rattled, when Donaire hits that chin Rigo won’t be getting up, Mares Donaire is teh fight we want, lets hope the promoters don’t screw us out of this like they did out of Manny Floyd,-peace

The Mad Scientist

Titopa – Donaire said it himself that Mares would be a tougher foe than Rigo..Nonito said if Mares can take my shots it would be a long night for me because of his style and I me Mares vs Donaire is a 50/50 fight with a slight edge maybe going to Donaire because of his game changing power and over all talent..btw, spare yourself ever calling me out with your childish name changing bets, I aready told you once where you can go with that BS!

Posted December 17, 2012 8:18 pm

Donaire is an exceptional talent, no question — certainly top 10 pfp. But it’s a damn shame these promoters won’t work together so he can get in with some heavier competition — love to see him in with Moreno, Rigondeaux and Mares. I say he beats anyone of them, but not easily.

hecdog – Mares is tough…but his chin has been checked. His legs were rattled against Agbeko and he was dropped against wild swinging Darchinyan. Donaire is a far more polished banger. He’s going to tag that chin, and when he does, believe me, Mares will go down and won’t get up. Mares can’t hurt Donaire, unless he goes for the balls, otherwise…Donaire via KO.

Fighting Arce was a joke. Donaire needs to fight Mares, Moreno, Rigo or even go up and fight Salido. Stop with the easy safe fights.

Posted December 17, 2012 6:19 pm

O you must the Rigondaux that was wobbled really bad his last fight by a guy who has less power than Donaire. And I’m sure he is avoiding Mares. Being that he promotes himself. Moreno will beat Nonito like nothing. Didny he just won by ko…. This is sarcasm if you didnt know

Posted December 17, 2012 6:17 pm

No if Donaire blows Mares out the water I will say damn that boy is something special, if he beats Mares I will say yes he is the best in the division though he still needs to fight Rigo. Right now he should only be a titles, he should not have the Ring belt but he does so he is the champ. But he needs to fight the best in his divison and not the washed up fighters he has been fighting. I was a fan of Donaire after the Vic fight but then he never capitalized on it. I liked what he did to Montiel but once again never capitalized on it. What he did this past saturday means absolutely nothing

Posted December 17, 2012 5:56 pm

When Donaire blows Mares out of the water….his haters won’t have nothing left to say but “Mares was too young, he should fight Rigo”….and fight Rigo he shall. Donaire will then school Rigo in a one-sided a** whoopin’ that will have his haters saying “Well Rigo wasn’t experienced enough, Donaire should move up in weight”….hahaha! I can hear it already. Donaire must move up to 126 to find a challange. Mares and Rigo will both fall victim to Donaire’s lighting speed and punishing power.

Posted December 17, 2012 5:48 pm

yeah donaire going to be tough to beat cause he can do alot of things in there it going to take sombody special to beat him abner mares deserve to fight donaire more then rigo do right now if donaire beat mares then fight rigo
