What’s happening with Clev? I heard Shumenov had thrown down the gauntlet for a WBA/WBO unification fight on nuetral ground. IE the USA.

Apparently the EBU have installed Mouhamed Ali Nciaye as #1 contender for Defail’s European title, which could well mean a trip to Italy for Clunky!

Posted August 20, 2012 5:04 am

How can Kessler be the King @ 168lb when Ward holds all the major belts?

Posted August 20, 2012 5:01 am

Dirrell’s got a fight coming up against Brian Magee for the meaningless WBA regular title.
Off subject: I see the EBU have made Mouhamed Ali Nciaye #1 contender for James Degale’s European title, which could be bad news for him & involve a trip to Italy. Doe’s anyone have a date & venue for George Groves/Kenny Anderson II yet?

Well, Froch v Kessler II would be classic. I think Froch will take it, might even be close.Froch v Dirrell II seems a bit premature considering Dirrell’s absence from the ring, regardless of news that he is signing up with TMT I am still of the opinion that he will fight some sort of tune up before considering a fight with Froch. Froch got schooled by Ward for at least 8 rounds of their encounter. Although I believe Ward to be the top of the division currently, I see no reason why Froch should avoid trying to get a rematch. He has, in his own way, looked good since the fight with Ward.As for facing Pavlik? I think Pavlik would be in for a rough night at this point, Froch’s style would present Pavlik with some problems in the defense department.

It is not a question of Ward wanting to cross the pond -he simply has to, he has nowhere to go, if he wants money fights. He is clearly to boring to pull in an audience himself. The Lhw division is weak ….sooo Ward has no choice.

Posted August 19, 2012 10:57 am

Froch wants to meet a quality opponent -before the Bute fight -problem is that he very much risks losing to Kessler and Ward is afraid of fighting Froch in Nottingham. Kessler is ready to fight Froch in Nottingham after the Bute fight, my understanding is that Kessler feels, he can win in Nottingham. I see the Froch vs Kessler fight 60/40 in favor of Kessler, who is mentally and physically stronger -compared to Froch. Kessler is king in the smw division, Froch number 2. As a Kessler fan I really respect Frochs right to fight in Nottingham now, after a string of difficult fights away and home.

Froch beat Dirrell, this is boxing not dancing. I was at that fight and no challenger is going to win a decission in a champion’s back garden by running all night and spoiling. FACT. Ward is the only fighter at SMW that has Froch’s number, Froch beats Kessler in a rematch. That being said the Kessler fight would be a classic again and one for the fans. A Ward rematch would see Froch fight as he did in the final 2 rounds for all 12. Could prove to be interesting. Froch has a bigger draw that Ward at this stage.

unfortunately that is largley due to tax reasons. They have to give up half their purse to the UK tax man, shame for all us UK fans

Posted August 19, 2012 7:15 am

lol! infact i think it was the first thing he said in the post fight interview!

Posted August 19, 2012 7:12 am

Dangerous Angel

OK. Sorry. Lets put it another way. In the last four years Pavlik has beaten Gary Lockett , Marco Rubio , Miguel Espino, Alfonso Lopez , Aaron Jaco, Scott Sigmon and Will Rosinsky. Can you please tell me which of the fighters I’ve just listed is “top level” in your opinion? ‘Nuff said ?

Posted August 19, 2012 6:51 am

1. there’s no way Ward needs to cross the pond to face Froch. He already beat him 10 out of 12 rounds. ………
2. Froch was already beat by Dirrell in the UK, which pretty much sums it up for most fans with a clue about boxing…………………………………………………………….
3. Froch better face Pavlik, cause Bika will have a good shot at beating him in his homeland.

There is no way Ward would ever cross the pond.Im not saying he wouldnt beat Froch. But that he would never fight outsise the US.
Very few US fighters will cross the pond to fight.
But i admire the few that do.

Now that’s a little unfair with what I see you have done with your words. “Froch has FOUGHT top level fighters, what top level fighters has Pavlik BEAT since Taylor 08?” Pavlik fought Sergio Martinez also! Froch has fought and was BEAT by Mikkel Kessler! Tell the WHOLE truth!

Posted August 18, 2012 12:44 pm

Froch has stated on a number of occasions he wants to rematch Kessler and Ward..

The Kingslayer

Froch’s not got the time for easy fights, he’s got one maybe two years left at elite level so he needs to challenge the best while he can.

Posted August 18, 2012 11:46 am

Froch has improved quite a bit since before the Super 6. I agree that Pavlik would be a good opponent but I’m not sure Kelly would agree to come over to England for it. I’m absolutely sure Froch wants a rematch with Ward however I think he wants it in England. If Bute had the b@lls to face Froch in Nottingham then I’m sure Ward will have no problem obliging also. That’s the fight I hope Matchroom push for.

Posted August 18, 2012 10:27 am

“Froch deserves an easy fight at this point.” No, this is boxing. He fights for a living.

Posted August 18, 2012 9:33 am

i hope its james de gale !! he’s always telling everyone how good he is .. carl will knock him out in 4..

Posted August 18, 2012 8:36 am

I know everyone is high on Froch, but you must remember he isn’t a world beater. He nearly lost to Taylor, got a questionable over Dirrell, lost to Kessler, and got dominated by Ward. No doubt you have to give him major kudos for his recent fight schedule, but that tough schedule has also likely taken a toll on him physically. That said, yes Pavilk has been on a tough road himself lately, but I say the two match up well and would make a very competitive fight.

Just read that Hearn was in discussions with Nicholson Poulard, lol. Had to look him up on Boxrec, he’s not even in the top 60. Worse than a Nathan Cleverly opponent.

The IBO title means bugger all in the real World! Oostuizen should be challenging George Groves for the far more prestigious & meaningful Commonwealth title belt!!………….

What do u mean cant afford oosthuizen?? Oosthuizens team turnd the fight down because hes not ready for froch. No other reason

Posted August 18, 2012 4:45 am

Is this a voluntary? If so I wouldn’t count out James DeGail even if the ref proberly would!

Posted August 18, 2012 4:42 am

I want it to be the winner of Stieglitz/Abraham. I’d also like to see Brian Magee vs Thomas Oosthuizen.

Posted August 18, 2012 4:40 am

I wouldn’t rule out names like Edwin Rodriguez and Don George, neither of them would do anythin for Froch’s potential HOF legacy but i think it’s down to who ever Matchroom can get to fight for peanuts.

If Froch has only 3 fights left why waste one of them fighting someone without a name or potential to be future champ?

Posted August 18, 2012 3:53 am

If Eddie Hearn can’t afford Oosthuizen what are the chances of him getting Pavlik? None i would say.

I dread to think who they will have Froch fighting, they should have made an offer to Mundine or Winky to go up to 168 (big name, ex champ, very winnable). I know Winky retired but still. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Paul Smith (!!!!) lol.

Fingers crossed that it’s at least a Bika.

How about a Ward rematch? [CRICKETS]
Funny how I never hear Carl utter Ward’s name. I guess he wants to back in the glow of the Bute victory before taking another loss.

The Mad Scientist

Bika vs Froch would be a good fight..I give Bika a good chance of pulling it off if it happens..

Posted August 18, 2012 1:22 am

Man.. let’s be real… Froch would kill Pavlik at this stage…. Pavlik and Froch’s careers the last few years have been polar opposites…don’t think Pavlik could stop Froch’s streak (albeit the Ward lost)

Posted August 18, 2012 1:12 am

terror tim

I would like to see the fight but even as a big Pavlik fan I can’t see him winning that. Froch is on a role right now and would be too strong. He is far more clever a boxer than most give him credit for.

Posted August 17, 2012 11:41 pm

I also have to agree with Dangerous Angel in his assessment of Pavlik lately, but I have to disagree with your choice of name for this forum. Better suited for a movie about a stripper with gonorrhea out to kill her parent’s murderer by dancing on top of him…

Posted August 17, 2012 10:52 pm

Exactly Dangerous Angel. Pavliks shown nothing at SM to even suggest Froch would flinch at one of his right hands. Froch would give Pavlik a career ending beating.

Posted August 17, 2012 8:03 pm

Pavlik hasn’t shown to have that power at 168 that he had at 160. Ill take Froch in that battle. Bute needs to get back on track before taking a rematch or calling out someone like Kessler or Ward. I think it will be a good fight between Frock and Pavlik but Ill take Froch by late round stoppage in the last couple rounds or a decision victory. Only way Bute finishes the fight with Froch in a rematch is if he is on his bike all night. Froch still wins the decision though

Posted August 17, 2012 7:09 pm

I never felt Bute was stronger….I just thought he was more skilled than Froch, but instead of believing in his (Bute) skills, he believed in his strength, which was hid downfall.

Posted August 17, 2012 7:06 pm

Big George

Kelly needs a couple more fights prior to Froch. Like Abraham than Bika! Then I’d think he’d be ready!

Posted August 17, 2012 6:23 pm

Dangerous Angel

It won’t happen because Pavlik wouldn’t show up just like he hasn’t for lots of fights. Pavliks right hand has done nothing except raise his beer bottle to his mouth for the last few years. Anyone thats any good is a bad style matchup for Pavlik because he’s now not very good. For example the great and proven Will Rosinsky didn’t feel the need to fall on the floor when Pavlik hit him with that right hand .

Posted August 17, 2012 6:16 pm

I’d like to see Forch vs Bute in Canada to see how big home advantage can be.

Posted August 17, 2012 6:13 pm

Who thought Bute was stronger than Froch? Stupid.

Posted August 17, 2012 6:13 pm

I said from the 1st mention from Froch about “shutting Pavlik up” his team wouldn’t take the match. Can’t shut someone up you won’t fight.

Posted August 17, 2012 4:59 pm

Froch eats right hands. Pavliks right hand when landed knocks fighters cold. Not a good style matchup for Froch like a glass chinned hype job Bute. Won’t happen.

Posted August 17, 2012 4:56 pm

The Kingslayer

Please let it be Kelly Pavlik or Sakio Bika !
