Experienced corner people with fabulous powers of observation can make a huge difference.. I suspect Wladimir will have a couple of the best working his corner.

Posted November 4, 2012 9:12 pm

Wlad could have the late Manny Steward RIP or Manny Ramirez in his corner, this Wach cannot compete at this level

johnathan banks will fill in nicely as wlads trainer. wlad tko jay leno 5.

Wladimir might actually recieve better advice from somebody else’s observations… Steward was always encouraging his fighters to go for the K—and sometimes at inappropriate times… A lot of his world champions were KO’d by underdogs—a la: Hearns vs Barkley… Lewis vs Rahman… Wladimir vs Brewster… Taylor vs Pavlik… and Vivian Harris vs Carlos Maussa … Harris’s situation is the most pathetic. Since being smashed out by Mausse as he was lying flat out on the floor—a foul the referee missed—Vivian’s been KO’d six (6) more times… He now has the punch resistance of Audley Harrison … Thankfully for Wladimir his chin is still intact. He absorbed some hard blows from Haye without any problems.

love the chin comments guys!! but on a serious note and i dont think anyone has mentioned this but a big question mark has to hang over Wlad for the next few fights now the late great Manny steward is not in wlads corner. The man with out a doubt was one of if not the greatest tacticians of all time and should wlad lose this fight or any time soonwill he further enhance and already formidable reputation of a great trainer ????

Posted November 2, 2012 9:19 pm

Wladimir’s chin is about equal height to Wach’s shoulders.. Wach can punch straight away…. Wladimir has never punched UP at a target and that’s always more difficult to do.

Posted November 2, 2012 8:57 pm

You cannot miss that chin….

Posted November 2, 2012 8:24 pm

Until now, the only boxer that can beat Klitschko is the other Klitschko.

Posted November 2, 2012 7:56 pm

the main point is that Vlad hasn’t fought someone bigger than him till now so it will be interesting to see how he handles that.

Posted November 2, 2012 7:16 pm

“Are you guys ready? Okay, let’s roll.”

wach is a live underdog.

Posted November 2, 2012 4:58 pm

I didn’t realize Wladimir’s neck is so long… Wach is 3 inches taller at the shoulder.

Posted November 2, 2012 3:25 pm

lol@everyone! He’s got a chin like a 1950’s comic book super hero

Posted November 2, 2012 3:13 pm

Cheese Cake

Wow I wonder how will WK miss that chin! He could probably go in this fight blindfolded.

Posted November 2, 2012 12:16 pm

The man who beats WK will be a small and fast hwt who carries a big punch and gets inside. I dont think pulev or povetkin are that guy. Haye had the speed and punch but not the heart. I cant state the obvious and say that sanders can happen again because it happens to everybody. Wlad is more prepared than ever to prevent another sanders or another brewster. he keeps his jab steady and doesnt thro 70 punches per rd. Huck presents the speed and punch but he will not escape the jab. There arent any sam peters out there any more. I used to think it would be a tall guy. WK hates south paws. Look at the iggy fight. He fought tall and never let wlad in. These little guys taste his power early and run. The next guy cant let that happen and nobody can pull that off. until then these guys must rely on wk to age over night. The divsion hasnt looked this empty since Tunney had no contenders. may take years. wlad may fight till hes 40 if his body does collapse 1st

Posted November 2, 2012 10:37 am

I think Wach is about the same as Fury, Dimentriko, Ustinov or Grant. Price and Pulev are much more dangerous but it will be a good match up. Wlad may blow him away in 1 or 2 rounds like he did with against Ray Austin or a late TKO of he he dominates him or a UD if he plays it say. Wach has the size to hit Wlad and the power to KO him, this will make it interesting.

Posted November 2, 2012 9:03 am

these brit a-holes will tune in and then come here to complain afterwards no matter how badly wlad beat this guy. as long as they’re watching.

Posted November 2, 2012 4:45 am

I think Kubrat Pulev, or even David Price, would make a more competitive and interesting fight against Wladimir—but for now this is the fight we’re stuck with and it’s the best opponent Wladimir has had for a while.. A big tall guy who can box better than Fields, Dimitrenko, Helenius, Ustinov, Harrison, Charr, Boytsov, Arreola, or Solis… He’s not the first, but he’s not the worst.. He’s one Hell of a lot more dangerous than Adamek.

Posted November 2, 2012 12:14 am

For the simple fact that his is the first guy Wlad is facing who is taller and has a longer reach than Wlad makes it an interesting match-up. Wach has never been beaten, never been hurt and has stopping power. That makes it very interesting. He has no where the skills, experience or athleticism of Wlad but who does??? This is a good fight. I would like to see how Wlad adjusts to a bigger opponent. Good test

I love to suck on that chin of that big brute ! I’m sick and I love it that way !

Posted November 1, 2012 11:29 pm

On a lighter note: I’d rather watch this than Pac and that dude he’s fightin’ for a fourth time–how’d they sell that fight?

James Slater seems to be a fairly decent writer BUT is there any particular reason he feels the need to HYPE fighters and especially unproven heavyweights who really have NO chance in beating a given champion?? I have observed him do this on numerous occasions and while doing so he often uses the no chance fighter’s nick name to add drama to the article – Not sure what that is all about.

Posted November 1, 2012 8:06 pm

who won the gavin vitter fight today?

Posted November 1, 2012 5:10 pm

wachs chin sticks out quite far

Posted November 1, 2012 4:38 pm

nemo… I don’t know how great a trainer Wladimir would be.. He’s a great athlete, great jab, great right hand, great left hook.. His stance and footwork have gotten better and better over the last 9 years.. He can tie up anyone with little effort.. But he can’t throw a masterful left hook to the body or work inside with any precision.. Steward wasn’t good at teaching that and never applied those techniques that well himself … As a trainer you teach tall guys, short guys, every physical type, so you need to know the game inside out like Floyd, Donaire, or Ward … They would be good candidates when their ring careers are over.

Posted November 1, 2012 4:33 pm

wow look at the size of that guys chin. what a target. maybe he could lend some of it to Amir Khan?

Posted November 1, 2012 4:12 pm

This guy may be Jay Leno’s son.

Posted November 1, 2012 3:19 pm

Tark, lauds Wach for beating Mcbride who is at this point a BUM, because Mcbride went the distance with Adamek… BIG DEAL Who is Adamek stopping at HW?? Its more of a testament to Tomas lack of power at HW despite his heart and toughness…Mcbride has been knocked out 7 times in his career and he has 10 losses… He is 1-6 in his last 7 bouts including 3 TKO’s and the guy is 39…. Is he supposed to be a proxy for Wachs chances against the true HW Champion of the World Wlad Klitschko?? Trying to build up Wach is not going to make Wlad look any better when he does whats expected and breaks the guys chin…. Woe be to the ill informed…

Another Robot mismatch! This fella looks like Jaws from the bond movies…

Posted November 1, 2012 2:59 pm

Apart of the Wach-match: Maybe after his career as a boxer, Wlad could become a trainer. He surely has the necessery analytic brain, he soaked up Stewards knowledge plus the soviet boxing school and he knows how to box. I think he would be one hell of a heavyweight-trainer. What do you think, guys?

Posted November 1, 2012 2:46 pm

This guy seems to be Mr.Chin from the Tango & Cash movie :-)))

Posted November 1, 2012 2:40 pm

Wlad NEVER fought Grant !!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted November 1, 2012 2:23 pm

Anyone forget MIchael Grant? He was 6 ‘7 and folded like a chair vs Wlad

Posted November 1, 2012 2:04 pm

It doesn’t matter that Wach is taller than Wlad — he fights bent over like an old man, instantly taking 5″ off his height. So it’s like Wlad fighting someone 6’3″. Plus even Fields hit Wach at will. Fields sucks so it didn’t do any damage, but when Wlad makes contact Wach will look like a sad, flattened old man. Wach is about as good as Helenius at his (Robert’s) worst. The others? Povetkin will lose a lopsided decision, Boytsov is too short, and Fury will get pummelled pillar to post. Let’s be real, there are no challenges out there for a while. Pulev has the most heart, he’d make a decent fight maybe but still come up short.

Posted November 1, 2012 2:00 pm

Wlad is no doubt dedicating the fight to Emanuel, and no doubt that will give him the extra motivation to do what it takes to win big….Its still very stange to me that we wont see Emanuel in a corner or commentating again..he will be sorely missed

Posted November 1, 2012 1:53 pm

Povetkin hasn’t been that impressive IMO, he ate so many right hands against hick I’m convinced wlad or haye for that matter would destroy him

Posted November 1, 2012 1:15 pm

dwc…Nobody beats W.K. for some time.Price MAY be the guy in a few years catching W.K. at the right time…and this is only MAYBE…

Posted November 1, 2012 1:09 pm

The writer forgot Pulev. That could be a challenging night for Wlad.

Posted November 1, 2012 11:54 am

wow he would be as well to paint a bullseye on that chin its one hell of a target.

Posted November 1, 2012 11:47 am

Dat chin.

Posted November 1, 2012 11:31 am

If Wlad touches that CHIN, fool is going down.

Posted November 1, 2012 11:07 am

Wach looks like he’s closer to 6’8″ than 6’7″. He’s not actually looking Wladimir directly in the eye, he’s looking down at him. Tye Fields is 6’8″ and they looked to be the same height. It’s not just the height but Wach’s reach appears to be longer as well. The man’s never been dropped and his hands are quick. He’s probably the best heavyweight Poland has produced. He flattened McBride who went the distance with Adamek, and he doesn’t have a punk attitude like Golota. I remember Grant saying, “I can’t wait to beat the crap out of this dupe” referring to the Foul Pole. The fight could go the distance but if he’s way behind on points it would be fun to see Wach going for broke in the championship rounds … Maybe too much to expect in this day of disciplined athletes who seem to think, “He’s pretty good and I’m probably a little behind on points. No reason to get crazy. I may lose this one but I should get more fights off of this.”

Posted November 1, 2012 10:48 am

old guy

people look at this guy and expect a Frankenstein staggering around the ring- actually he has pretty good movement and is efficient with his shots- could be dangerous for Wlad

Posted November 1, 2012 10:44 am

Mike…. Intresting point, I get where your coming from but do we need gatekeepers or should we just get the bodies to get the guys to fight for number 1 contendership. eg haye v pulev and fury v mitchel. Winners fight each other to see who fightd for there bodies title. (not those guys that was just an example).

Posted November 1, 2012 10:14 am

I knew Brucie liked the ladies when he was young, and that chin proves it…Wach should ditch “hells Bells” as his ring intro(as it belongs to Wlad) and maybe play “Life is the name of the game and i wanna play the game with you” and have his robe emblazoned with ” Nice to see you…to see you nice!” Easy night for Wlad,he just needs to watch out that Wach doesn’t try to poke his eye out with that chin…or chin-butt him…..Wach is too slow, terrible balance, footwork, conditioning, ring iq…when shall i stop?…. Wlad is leagues ahead of any current heavyweight. The only guys that might chin check him are Fury or Pulev. The rest are either not good enough(Wilder/Mitchell/Arreola/Helenius) or too small(Boystov/Perez etc)…the only guy i see as having a good chance of beating Wlad is David Price, but he needs at least another 5 or 6 fights before he’s ready for Wlad.Wlad is in a unique situation. He’s a superheavyweight with destructive power, superb athleticism, great ring iq ,and currently unrivalled experience. His potential opponents are essentially either experienced but totally washed up,or have youth but totally inadequate experience.Unless Wlad gives Haye another shot,Pulev, Pov and Fury are the best opponents he can hope for right now.If Pov says he’s not ready,he should be stripped of that belt.

Posted November 1, 2012 10:13 am

Look at that beautiful chin on Mariusz

Posted November 1, 2012 9:47 am

Without Manny’s training, Vlad could run into problems with the big guys. We’ll see. Since Vitali has won a seat in the Ukraine parlament, I’m expecting him to retire by the end of the year, so Vlad will have to hurry up to unify the belts, before one of the modern behemoths takes it.

Posted November 1, 2012 9:43 am

Pulеv will dеstroу wlаdimir

Posted November 1, 2012 9:36 am

One small correction. Povetkin’s WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight championship is not a small piece of the puzzle for Wladimir since he’s already beaten 2 WBA champions before. Before he beat Haye he beat Chagaev who was the undefeated WBA champion at the time. Valuev who had been beaten by Chagaev only held a portion of the WBA championship due to Chagaev’s illness. When Wlad beat Chagaev the WBA stripped Chagaev of his portion of the title and did not award it to Klitschko. When Wlad beat Haye the WBA elevated him to ‘super champion’ and created a ‘regular’ champion. It’s not arguable that Wlad is the real WBA champion. If Wlad beats Povetkin he won’t take the WBA regular championship since he is already their super champion. The WBA will just create another regular champ. I’m not necesarily against what the WBA is doing and maybe the other bodies should also do that, because it creates gatekeepers that weed out the undeserving contenders. We might have more competitive matchups if every contender has to fight a regular champ before he gets a shot at Wladimir the undisputed champ. Wladimir can only fight 3 times a year and if he takes the WBC belt he’ll have 4 major sanctioning bodies to satisfy plus the IBO. Wladimir should fight the ‘regular’ champs from each body in rotation and let the other contenders fight for obtaining a ‘regular’ championship to get a shot at the undisputed king.

Posted November 1, 2012 9:24 am

Just The FACTS

Slater if this boxing writer gig doesn’t work out theres always comedy writing. None of the listed potential opponents have anything other than a lucky punchers chance, Wlad will have any of the above beat before they finish the ring intros. 62 fights experience will trump anything any of these guys can bring to the ring, the potential most dangerous is Fury who has beat nobody of note. Please don’t suggest the limited Chisora was a formidible foe, he was fodder. Wlad rules till he wishes to give it up or two yrs. from now Price proves he can hang with the top 10 guys.
